Windows 10: When trying to play a DVD for program installation I get "This App Has Been Blocked for...

I'm trying to install the Cyberlink Media Suite 12 programs on my XPS 8960. When I insert the DVD I get "This app has been blocked for your protection. An adm has blocked you from running this app"I am the administrator and I checked and I have full adm privileges. I'm running via an external blu ray driveAny ideas for a fix would be greatly appreciated

Windows DVD Player installed in Windows 10 but not recognizing DVD to play

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community.

The DVD Player app only supports the following:

a. DVDs from a file backup is not supported, the app currently only plays DVD movies on optical discs.

b. The App will only play DVD's not Blu-ray discs.

If you satisfy both the categories, I would suggest you follow the steps below and see if it helps:

Update DVD/CD-ROM drives from Device Manager.

  Press Windows key + R key. Type "devmgmt.msc" and click Enter.
  
• 
  Expand the DVD/CD-ROM drives.
  
• 
  Double-click on the DVD/CD-ROM drive.
  
• 
  In Properties, go to Drivers Tab and click on Update.
  

If this does not work you might have to Uninstall and then reinstall your drivers in compatibility mode.

Follow the steps to uninstall and reinstall the driver.

• 
  Press Windows key + R key. Type "devmgmt.msc" and click Enter.
  
• 
  Expand the DVD/CD-ROM drives.
  
• 
  Double-click on the DVD/CD-ROM drive.
  
• 
  In Properties, go to Drivers Tab and click on Uninstall.
  
• 
  Reinstall your audio driver from Manufacturer's Website in Compatibility mode.
  
• 
  Restart your system

Cannot play DVDs. I need the Microsoft DVD player.

I thought you said you can play DVD's now. If so then what is the remaining problem?

If not then going over the thread these are the steps. Let me know which are a problem after I explain them again.

Right click Start button to open Control Panel, choose Icon View, then Programs and Features. Uninstall DVD Manager, restart PC.

In the same Icon View in Control Panel (the directions for which I gave you in the preceding sentence to the one you quoted) choose Default Programs, then Set Default Programs, select Windows Media Player from the list, and click the button to Set this
Program as Default.

Next choose either of the players from
How to play DVDs in Windows 10 for free | PCWorld. Andre suggested the first one already, but you said you had downloaded VLC and it was being blocked by DVD Manager. So you can try installing it now from your download, or download it again fromVLC
media player.

If VLC is not to your liking you can use the other one recommended which Andre first suggested.

Unable to play DVD using Windows DVD player app

To help you better please provide us with the below information.

• Which build is currently running on your computer?
• What is the complete error message/code you see while trying to play a DVD?
• Is the issue specific to one DVD or all the DVD's?

As initial step I suggest you to install all the pending updates on your computer, restart your computer and check if it fixes the issue.

If the issue still appears follow methods to address your issue.

Method 1: Run the Windows App Troubleshooter
