Windows 11 June 2026 Update Breaks Recycle Bin Dialogs, OneDrive Access, and BSOD Reports...

Microsoft has confirmed a bug affecting the Recycle Bin in Windows 11 after this month's Patch Tuesday update.

Users have also reported various other problems since the rollout of the June 2026 update earlier this week, including issues with OneDrive access, File Explorer performance, Blue Screen of Death errors, and BitLocker Recovery prompts.

The Recycle Bin issue is the only bug Microsoft has officially acknowledged so far. The update in question is KB5095051.

According to Microsoft’s known issues page, the Recycle Bin problem appears to be an edge case linked to the confirmation dialog, and it is not associated with data loss.

The Confirmed Recycle Bin Bug And Other Issues Reported by Users

Users who have installed KB5095051 might notice unusual behavior in the Recycle Bin when permanently deleting a single file. Instead of the original filename like realfilename.txt, the confirmation dialog shows a cryptic internal filename such as $Rxxxxx.ext.

This issue is limited to the confirmation prompt; the Recycle Bin window itself continues to display the correct original filename. When restoring a file, it returns to its original location with the correct name.

Files deleted through the dialog are removed as expected, so the bug does not cause data loss or major disruption. Microsoft states a workaround is available, but only commercial users can implement it.

System administrators need to contact Microsoft Support for Business to get details on the mitigation. Home and other non-commercial users will have to wait for a future Windows update to receive an official fix.

Microsoft has not officially confirmed these issues, but reports have been widespread on Microsoft's forums and Reddit since the June update. Users have noted problems with

OneDrive and Dropbox access; on Microsoft Learn forums, some report having trouble opening OneDrive folders in File Explorer after installing KB5094126. IT administrators on the r/sysadmin subreddit have observed slow performance of File Explorer across hundreds of PCs in their organizations.

Some HP device users have experienced blue screen errors with error code 0xc0430001 following the update. Lenovo users have reported that their PCs freeze under moderate workloads after applying the update.

Additionally, one IT administrator shared that the update triggered BitLocker Recovery on devices with local accounts. A Microsoft support chatbot suggested that the only solution was to wipe the device and reinstall Windows, but this advice should be taken with caution given the chatbot’s reliability.

What Windows 11 Users Should Do About the June 2026 Update

For users experiencing serious issues with the June 2026 update, a system restart can often help clear temporary errors.

If problems continue, check Settings, then Windows Update, and view the update history. Use the Uninstall updates option to remove the latest update if necessary.

For those prompted with BitLocker Recovery, ensure the recovery key is accessible through the Microsoft account at account.microsoft.com/devices/recoverykey before attempting further troubleshooting. It’s advisable to back up important data before trying any recovery steps.

Users who encounter the Recycle Bin dialog bug can generally ignore it for now, as files are still deleted correctly, even if the filename shown in the confirmation prompt is incorrect.

The issues have been reported shortly after Microsoft highlighted efforts to improve Windows update reliability, including a recent promise to reduce the number of reboots needed after updates.

Despite these initiatives, monthly Patch Tuesday updates continue to come with reliability and compatibility problems.

For example, the May 2026 KB5089549 update caused EFI partition errors on some systems and was eventually reverted through a Known Issue Rollback.

Microsoft has not yet provided a timeline for a permanent fix to the Recycle Bin, only stating it will arrive in a future Windows update.

In the meantime, users experiencing serious issues might want to hold off on installing the June 2026 update via Windows Update until Microsoft addresses the broader stability concerns.

    OneDrive and Recycle bin

I am a bit confused on how OneDrive and deleted items work.

I've my desktop synched, and when I delete an item it goes to my Windows 10 Recycle bin (and also OneDrive Recycle bin).

If I log on to another PC, Would the recycle bin sync?

How about creating an item from OneDrive web portal and deleting it? Sometimes I see it in my desktop recycle bin and sometimes not.

    Can anybody explain?

    Thanks!
