  2. Windows 10 Eject Button Missing for external hard drive

Why would, of all things, the eject button of a mounted external hard drive go missing? That's a Windows operating system for you. I'm using Explorer and right-clicking over the drive letter - but, no listing for ejecting the drive. Anyway, before I just rip out the USB cable of my external hard drive - is there a reasonable solution (that's under 25 nebulous steps) to just EJECT a freakin' hard drive plugged into Windows 10? Is it really necessary for every little thing in Windows to turn into a complicated procedure?

But, the option to format the external drive is in the menu.

It would be great if you can answer these questions to assist you in a better way.

    • Did you try connecting the Hardrive to different USB Port?
    • Does the Hardrive get detected if you try connecting it to a different PC?
    • Are you aware of any changes made to the computer recently?

I suggest you refer and follow the steps mentioned in the KB article and check if that resolves the issueError:

Note: Ignore method 2 & 5 from the above article.

    External Hard Drive/New Volumn

Hi Kenneth, I'm John D, and I am happy to help you with this.

I understand that you have been having trouble ejecting your external hard drive and have discovered that you had made a volume with the letter E within the drive that was for the external hard drive. You can only make the ejection work if you use volume E.

Regarding your concern about making a backup where File History is not recognizing the external drive One Touch, please try these steps:

    > Check if the external hard drive is properly connected and recognized by your computer.

    > Create a new backup plan in File History and select the external hard drive as the backup location.

    > Check if the drive is formatted correctly. It should be formatted in NTFS or exFAT.

    > Format the drive to NTFS or exFAT if it is not formatted correctly.

I hope these steps help. If you have any further questions or concerns, please let me know.

    Best regards,

    John D.
