Visual Studio Modeling SDK is now available with Visual Studio 2017

You might want to use the Visual Studio Modeling SDK if you have one of these requirements:

Create Graphical or Form-Based modeling designers. For these, you can use the DSL Tools

Enable transformation of T4 templates part of the build. For these you can use the T4 SDK

Bulk-index assemblies in the Code Index underlying Code Map. For this you can use the Code Index SDK (embedded in the Modeling SDK)

The Modeling SDK changed its name several times during the last ten years: starting from the ‘DSL Tools’ in 2007, it grew to become ‘Visualization and Modeling SDK’ (VSVm SDK) in 2010. At that time, the SDK also contained UML extensibility. Finally, the name was a bit long and therefore it was shorted to ‘Modeling SDK’ in 2012. With previous versions of Visual Studio, regardless of its name, we used to release the Modeling SDK as a separate download.

We are pleased to announce that, from this Visual Studio 2017 RC update, the Visual Studio Modeling SDK will be released as part of Visual Studio itself (in all editions of Visual Studio).

How to install the components of the Modeling SDK?

Previously, the DSL Tools, T4 SDK and Code Index SDK were all shipped as part of the Modeling SDK.

In VS2017, the T4 SDK is installed with the T4 runtime as part of the Text Template Transformation optional component, which is itself installed by default with many Visual Studio workloads

The DSL Tools and Code Index SDK are installed as part of the DSL tools optional component (the component will be renamed to the Modeling SDK in a future Visual Studio RC update, as this is the name under which you have known it for several years). you can find this component in the Visual Studio Extension development workload in every edition of Visual Studio.

Known issues

For the next update of Visual Studio 2017 RC we are slightly improving the experience:

When you use the “Add New Project …” dialog, the DSL Tools project template is currently located under “Other Project Types | Extensibility”. And now, it’s the only one in this category. We are moving it to be under “C# | Extensibility” with the other Visual Studio SDK content, where it makes more sense.

The DSLProjectMigrationTool, (which transforms a DSL Tools solution created for previous versions of Visual Studio, to Visual Studio 2017) will also be added to the release.

DSL Tools are described in detail in the MSDN Library (Modeling SDK for Visual Studio – Domain-Specific Languages). One change is you won’t need to install the Modeling SDK any longer. The DSL Tools Lab is a good resource for beginners.

T4 MSBuild is also described in the MSDN Library (https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee847423.aspx). Again, you can skip the first step as you won’t need to install the Modeling SDK any longer.

How can I solve the code 10 problem with my ethernet adapter "Intel (R) ethernet connection I217-LM"

Body: Hello everyone,

I'm experiencing a persistent issue with my Intel Ethernet Connection I217-LM onboard adapter. The adapter is displaying a "Code 10" error in the Device Manager, which indicates that the device cannot start. I've exhausted various troubleshooting steps, and I'm seeking assistance from the community to help resolve this issue.

Problem Description:

Operating System: [Windows 10, version 22H2]

Motherboard: [HP ProDesk 600 G1 TWR]

Network Adapter: Intel Ethernet Connection I217-LM

Issue Details:

The onboard adapter was working fine until recently when I encountered the "Code 10" error and there is no internet connection at all.

I've tried updating drivers, uninstalling and reinstalling the adapter in safe mode , checking for BIOS updates, and performing network troubleshooters, but the problem persists.

I've tested the adapter in Safe Mode with Networking, didn't work at all , and of course the "Code 10" error still occurs in normal mode.

The adapter's LED lights are slightly blinking, suggesting some level of activity.

I've also tried using the Intel Ethernet Flash Firmware Utility (BootUtil) to diagnose and update the firmware, but I'm encountering difficulties initializing the adapter.

Specific Troubleshooting Steps Taken:

Driver updates: I've downloaded and installed the latest drivers from both the Intel website and my computer manufacturer's website.

BIOS/UEFI settings: I've checked and reset BIOS/UEFI settings related to the onboard adapter.

Safe Mode: I've tested the adapter in Safe Mode with Networking, where it partially works.

BootUtil: I've attempted to use BootUtil to diagnose and update the firmware, but I'm encountering issues initializing the adapter.

I'm reaching out to the community for any additional insights, suggestions, or possible solutions to this "Code 10" issue. If anyone has experienced a similar problem or has expertise in troubleshooting network adapters, your guidance would be greatly appreciated.

After supporting the widely adopted JUnit 4 with the Java Test Runner extension for Visual Studio Code, we’ve received suggestions to add additional test frameworks, like JUnit 5 and TestNG. We’ve added initial support for JUnit 5, including running, debugging test cases as well as test report. Please give us a try and let us know your feedback.

Expression Evaluation based Conditional Break Point

After introducing expression evaluation in our January release for the Java debugger extension, we are bringing the functionality to conditional break points. Now, you can set your breakpoint to break when an expression evaluates to true. We believe this could be a very useful feature when debugging your Java application using Visual Studio Code.

We’ve also added new features to our Java on Visual Studio Code extension lineup, including:

Trigger tests from test explorer on different levels

Add command to open log file

Add setting to specify the position of test report
