Windows Insiders Must Update Before August 11 as Flight Certificate Expires Across All Channels

Microsoft advises Windows Insiders to update their PCs before August 11, 2026, when the current Windows Insider flight certificate expires.

The latest Insider builds include a renewed certificate that applies to all Insider channels, including Experimental and Beta, not just the Canary Channel. Insiders who do not update will receive an expiration warning and will no longer receive automatic background updates after the certificate expires.

Microsoft routinely renews flight certificates to ensure Insider devices remain on supported builds and continue to receive updates.

Why the Windows Insider Flight Certificate Matters

Flight certificates keep devices current and on supported Windows versions. Microsoft highlighted this renewal because it now applies to all Insider channels, not just the Canary Channel as in previous cycles.

A reminder at the top of the latest Insider build change log states: "The current flight certificate expires on August 11, 2026, so please update your device to a build containing the renewed flight certificate before that date." Microsoft notes that Insider Preview builds use periodically renewed flight certificates to keep devices supported and receiving updates.

Microsoft published the minimum builds that contain the renewed certificate for each channel:

    • Experimental (Future Platforms): build 29634.1000, available July 27, 2026.
    • Experimental (26H2): build 26300.9032, available July 31, 2026.
    • Experimental (26H1): build 28120.2630, available July 31, 2026.
    • Beta (25H2): build 26220.9022, available July 31, 2026.
    • Beta (26H1): build 28020.2623, available July 31, 2026.

After completing this one-time update, the PC will resume receiving regular updates.

What Happens If Windows Insiders Don’t Update

Insiders who do not update to a build with a renewed flight certificate will see a desktop warning: "This build will expire soon." After August 11, affected devices will stop receiving automatic background updates.

This issue can be resolved after expiration by manually installing the latest build. To install a build with the renewed certificate:

    1. Open Settings, then Windows Update.
    2. Check for updates and let the PC download the latest Insider build for its channel.
    3. Ensure the installed build meets or exceeds the minimum required for your channel, then restart to complete the update.

Windows 11 test builds expire relatively quickly. Insiders should update regularly to remain on a supported version.

The renewed flight certificate is available now in the minimum builds listed for each channel. Insiders have until August 11, 2026 to update before the current certificate expires.

Microsoft has not indicated how frequently future certificate renewals will apply across all channels rather than only Canary, so Insiders on any channel should treat regular updating as necessary going forward.

    Windows 11 expired certificates ?

Hi, I'm having an array of problems on my Windows 11 laptop for a while now, and I believe they are all tied to expired certificates, but I'm not a 100% sure.

Here are the various issues I'm facing, in the somewhat chronological order I encountered them :

The Steam friend's list can't connect to its servers. It's the steam support who suggested I might have an expired certificates problem.

I can't download anything from the microsoft store, error code is 0x80072F8F.

Chrome gives me a security warning on a lot of innocuous websites (NET::ERR_CERT_DATE_INVALID).

I also noticed windows update not automatically downloading updates, like the KB5008295 one, as I understand it should have been installed since the 5th november.

I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do here, I initially tried to fix the Steam issue by manually installing certificates they linked me, but that didn't work (maybe I didn't install them properly, I don't know). I'm having the feeling the problem runs deeper, I'm at a loss here.
