How to apply Known Issue Rollback (KIR)?

Hi,

I have a specific example. I am lost with KIRs.

Says for enterprise computers need to apply KIR. Are enterprise computers considered those that are connected to a windows domain? Are domain connected computers going to get the KIR automatically or do I need to push the group policy?

I download KIR msi file. Installed it on Windows 2012 server. Opened group policy manager but I cannot find group policy for this KIR. How can I load it and configure it so Windows 10 computers pick it up?

 

How to deploy KIR through script

Team,

We have over 1000 assets managed by a third party RMM tool. The document here describes how to configure local groups manually through the GUI. Since we don't have GPO or Intune, we need a way to do this through CLI or a script. Please help us configure it through a script and proceed with the upgrade.

Nice problem summary and workaround

Microsoft is aware of this issue
The current plan is to resolve this issue in a future Windows Update
In the mean time, a Known Issue Rollback (KIR) policy disables the specific breaking change inherited by the October 14 Windows Update.
Enabling the KIR allows the October 14 Windows Update to remain installed without crashing Explorer.

Devices that automatically receive KIR updates can reboot to apply this change.

Administrators that want to enable the KIR in local or domain policy can contact Microsoft Commercial Windows support to get the MSI file configures the KIR (assuming it doesn't get documented on the Windows Health Release Dashboard.)
