Windows 10: Google Releases a Dedicated Gemini App for Windows

Google has now launched a special Gemini app for Windows, coming on the back of its previous release for macOS, as the company has announced.

The free app allows users to activate the AI assistant using the Alt + Space keyboard shortcut and thus means that Windows users need not depend on the browser version anymore.

The company characterises the app as "lightweight and quiet" and states that it "does not slow down your PC", with more features to be added in the future. The app can now be downloaded from Google's website.

What Google's Gemini App for Windows Can Do


The Gemini app for Windows has three primary uses, according to Google.

At any time, users can open Gemini by pressing Alt + Space in order to carry out tasks such as fact-checking a document or coming up with title ideas, and then they can go back to their work.

Within the app, users are given their own workspace giving them access to all the things they currently use Gemini for, such as handing their multi-step tasks over to Gemini Spark, which is described as a 24/7 personal AI agent, or asking Gemini to prepare a project summary by retrieving information from Google apps including Gmail and Google Drive.

The app also includes the ability to create images and videos. Users are able to generate custom images using Nano Banana or produce videos directly with Gemini Omni from their desktop.

How to Download the Gemini App for Windows


The Windows version of Gemini is free and can be downloaded from Google's Gemini desktop page. After it has been installed, it can be opened at any time by using the Alt + Space keyboard shortcut.

The Windows version of the Gemini app is now available for free download. Although Google has said that further features will be added in the future, it has not specified which ones or when they will be added. This release brings the Windows app in line with the one already available for macOS.
