  1. Microphone Not Being Properly Recognized

Recently, the popup that allows you to pick what device you've plugged into the audio jack has stopped showing up. How do I re-enable this? It knows that something is plugged in because i can hear the audio through my headset, however it seems to think that im just using headphones, not a headset. It doesn't use the microphone on the headset, rather the computer mic. I have been lookin for hours but I can't find a solution. Every possible solution has said to access the HD Audio manager but i don't seem to have that on my computer. How do i make this popup start showing again, preferably without the HD Audio Manager? (If I need to install it thats fine but if prefer not to. I tried downloading it but I don't think it's working. If I have to download it a link would be appreciated).

The audio driver i am using is realtek audio. I did get a new Microphone, but I also tried it with the old headset and it didn't work either. It seems to be a system problem.

    :)

Microphone not working properly after upgrade to 1803

After upgrade to 1803 my microphone is not working properly. I googeld and found many times this answer:

    • Hit Windows key and search for "microphone privacy settings"
    • Hit "Allow access to the microphone on this device"
    • Switch "Allow apps to access your microphone" to ON
Among the apps that are showing is Edge. There the mike is working, but on chrome and my games microphone is not working

    Hi Hassan,

Thanks for posting your query on Microsoft Community.

If a mic connected to this computer isn’t working properly then it’s likely a settings problem.

I suggest you to follow the below steps and check if it helps.

    • Right-click on the speaker icon in the bottom-right part of the screen.

    • Click on ‘Recording Devices‘.

    • A list of recording devices will appear. Try speaking into your microphone, and see if there any
green bars rising next to one of them while you talk.

    • If you don’t see any green bars skip to step 5.

    • Check if you can recognize which one of the devices in the list is your
microphone. If you found it, click on it to highlight it, and then click
      Set Default.

    • Check again if you see green bars rising when you talk into the microphone. If you do your mic is now correctly setup. If not, continue to next step.

    • Double-click on the device that represents your microphone. The
Microphone Properties window will appear. Click the Levels tab.

    • In the levels tab, drag the slider all the way to the right, until the number on the right says “100“.

    • Click OK and check if it helps.
Hope it helps, reply to us with the status of your issue. We will be happy to assist you.

  4. Microphone Not Being Properly Recognized

Cortana isnt recognizing my wireless headset microphone

    Hi,

Is the Microphone recognized when you use other applications?

From what you have described, I suspect that the issue is caused due to some incorrect settings or due to a driver compatibility issue. I would suggest you to first check if the Microphone is recognized and if you are able to hear you voice properly by using
the 'Set up a Microphone Wizard'. Go to Control panel, click on 'Speech recognition' and then use the 'Set up a Microphone' wizard.

If the issue still persist, then it could be driver compatibility issue. Some times generic drivers installed by Windows might not be compatible with the certain audio adapters. To check if this is the case, I would recommend you to download the latest drivers
from the PC manufacturer's website and install them. Try these steps and let us know the results for further assistance.
