Windows 10: ActiveX content not loading in IE 11 Win10

I have an internal web page accessing activex content. I have tried everything I know how to do to get this to function.


What works... all our original win10 1703 images from 1.5+ years ago work fine with standard windows updates, they load all the activex content. There are 15 install prompts for add-ons.


The newest images 1703 do not load all the activex content. (Iconics add-ons) On the new images all the add-ons do not prompt to load but the manage add-ons looks identical to the working PC. Using IE11, compatibility mode, trusted sites, custom is all enables except filtering. I am 95% on the new vs. old image but our group does not have the old image around anymore and that team has no idea what may have changed to impact activex content. I am an IT admin so this is beyond simple stuff. Any idea on what to check, update, run, etc would be greatly appreciated.

I have an ActiveX that includes a menu at the top and a main page under it. When clicking the menu or sometimes a button in the page, it loads the new page and then displays it. While it is loading a page from within the ActiveX, the previous page is shown
and the cursor is changed to a hourglass.

Strangely, when that is done in Internet Explorer 11 on Windows 10, the whole ActiveX is blank while loading. It works on previous versions of Windows but not in Windows 10.

Here is a detail of the windows functions called when we click the menu in the ActiveX:

• UpdateWindow(hwnd);
• UpdateWindow(hwnd); // Calling the function a second time forces an immediate update which makes the open menu disappear or the button to be unpressed. It was necessary in old versions of Windows.
• SendMessage(hwnd, WM_SETREDRAW, FALSE, 0); // Prevents redrawing while loading the new page
• Load the new page from within the ActiveX. That usually includes fetching data from the database but rarely take more than 5 seconds.
• SendMessage(hwnd, WM_SETREDRAW, TRUE, 0);
• RedrawWindow(hwnd, &bounds, NULL, RDW_ERASE | RDW_INVALIDATE | RDW_UPDATENOW | RDW_ALLCHILDREN);

Any idea why the ActiveX is blank at step 4 on Windows 10?

I would really like to understand what is happening. Any help appreciated. Note that this is all done from within the ActiveX. In IE, it stays in the same page with the ActiveX.

IE 11 doesnt work in windows 10 after closing the ActiveX add.

  Are you able to open websites using other web browsers and on other devices?

  Does the issue occur specific to one website?
  

ActiveX controls are small apps that allow websites to provide content such as videos and games. They also let you interact with content like toolbars and stock tickers when you browser the web.



I suggest you to check if similar issue persists when browsing using other web browsers. If the issue persists, I suggest you to check if your network is connected appropriately on your device.

Internet Explorer by referring
