Windows 10: Issues with sound quality after updates

So far as I can see, all of similar threads have been closed - not because they have been fixed, but...


So, again, as far as I can see, the "solutions" are:


Dumb down the speakers and audio - CD quality, remove enhancements, etc. NOT A SOLUTION

Dumb down / retro-install old drivers -from Windows 8 !!! How is THAT a solution?

Use an external device - great, if you're not getting digital output from various 'net or apps

Dump the PC and go to Mac - then install Windows 10 emulator on the Mac. I actually LOVE this one, but absolutely HATE Apple products....


I have been using Windows 10 and associated drivers for years (early adapter) and hadn't an issue prior to this season's Updates - because of this I have removed ALL of the Update options and gone back to full manual. Not the best thing. NEVER had an issue. NEVER.


This BS could well move me to Chrome, a variation of Unix or, as last resort, a Mac (god help us all).


And it's not this one issue either - the updates this year have crippled many things and wasted more hours than have been spent troubleshooting products for the past few decades of MS iterations.


And they really want to make this a subscription service?!?

Sound Quality


One thing that sticks out from looking at your "My Computer" specs. You list "ONBOARD 6 CHANNEL (5.1) HIGH DEF AUDIO (AS STANDARD)" which suggests you do not have the correct sound hardware driver. Your motherboard has Realtek sound and the first step is to install the Realtek sound drivers. My ASUS also came with Sonic Studio 2 which is a sound enhancement package. Check the ASUS install disc to see if you have something similar.

May not be a speaker problem.

 

Good surround sound headset

I know you say you're not that guy, but stepping into the $250+ range really brings a change in build quality that might have you never having to buy another set. Otherwise, getting 6 speakers with decent sound in a headset is hard, and that's what you are asking for, and I have no suggestions, but just a bump up the list. *Stick Out Tongue
