0x00000124 Windows shutdown unexpectedly/Windows stpooed working

Over the past few weeks my Precision 5530 has been unresponsive when I open the lid in the mornings or after closing the lid for a few hours; the power is set to do nothing when I close the lid. The keyboard seems responsive and the backlights work but the screen is totally black, and the only way to fix is hard power cycle.

Reliability monitor shows multiple “Windows shutdown unexpectedly”, “Windows stopped working”, and “Windows was not properly shut down” all related to the error 0x124 code.

I have the memory dmp files and mini dmp files, but am a loss on how to narrow it down.

I have followed the instructions from Dell at

    https://www.dell.com/support/articl...ows-blue-screen-error-stop-0x00000124?lang=en

    and this link

    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us...essageId=0d1df227-2838-4f54-b91f-03e433d2909d

    as well.

I have run the extended memory test, CPU and GPU stress tests, all drivers are updated and current. I think it started happening right after the installation of KB4517389.

Disabling the C1 power state in the BIOS seems to have worked for the past two days, but I’m not sure what the root cause is.
