I stopped all non MS services, and all startup items in MSCONFIG

I disabled video, audio and printer drivers in Dev Mgr

I deleted the $WINDOWS.~BT files

I unplugged my printer and scanner

I ran the windows 10 upgrade tool from a USB device as, and not as Admin

Sometimes I allowed the process to download updates and then gave that up and decided to let it wait until later.

I ran the troubleshoot for Windows update

I have lots of space on a partitioned C drive.

My computer is older, but easily meets Windows 10 requirements.


Every time, it gets through the install until a shutdown. At about 15%, it dies and I am back at the sign-in page for Windows 7.

I followed the steps but I got the same error message as I got when I tried the suggestion of DaveM121 -- 0x8007001F-0x20006
