Windows 10: 0xC1900101 - 0x30018

Iam trying to revive an old Compaq Presario laptop to use as a testing/utility/surveillance camera machine but I don’t want to be bothered with anything other than Windows 10.

So, first I clean installed Windows 8.1 from a purchased disc and made sure it was activated.

Then I ran the Windows 10 upgrade assistant.

After running for over 14 hours, it crashed with the message: 0xC1900101 - 0x30018
The installation failed in the FIRST_BOOT phase with an error during SYSPREP operation"



I then downloaded and burned an .iso file, but before attempting to upgrade from that, based on a post by Andre Da Costa in a thread that is now closed, I ran the following command string: rundll32.exe pnpclean.dll,RunDLL_PnpClean /DRIVERS /MAXCLEAN in a command window with administrator privileges.


This has now been running for almost 20 hours. I realize that this is a very slow machine, but can it possibly be doing anything? The machine is not frozen, because I can call up other programs while the command window remains active.



Should I assume that the routine is in a never-ending loop and simply kill it? I hate to do that if there is any possibility that it might get to a normal termination in the next 5 minutes.

Same here, have tried it at least three times to no avail. Installation gives a BSOD after second reboot at 32% of installation (6% of apps and drivers). It tries to resurrect the installation, fails, and rolls back to original OS, Windows 7 Ultimate, in my case. On return to W7 it gives the dreaded error code 0xc1900101-0x30018. Will be following this thread to see if any possible solution arises.

Edit: During one of my attempts, I unplugged the USB drive and the Wifi USB, this did not help unfortunately.
