Windows 10: 1 second image freeze exactly every minute

Ok, try disabling any drivers you don't actually need..

You could check what differences there are in services and startups between safe mode and a clean boot, and disable those that are different using Autoruns.

I.e. if you have this symptom after a clean boot, try to reduce that state to one closer to Safe Mode to try to identify the culprit.

Your graphics card is definitely supported as you know from the drivers
Which NVIDIA GPUs are supported in Windows 10?

ok it's definitely the gpu driver. I asked at the Nvidia forum for help but their forum isn't really helpful a lot :/

Mm, I guess your only option with Win 10 is to try different versions and hope, or try e.g. Drivermax (driver scanner), or find someone who's succeeded. You could post on Acer's site.

On their website it says the Aspire V3-574G series is compatible with Win 10 and I have an Aspire 5741G (I don't know if it's part of that series though)

Note that the first came with Win 8.1 and yours with Win 7, so yours is an older model. Of course that alone doesn't mean it can't run Win 10, but if it's not on their approved list, well, there could be a reason.

Remember you have 30 days to restore previous version (unless you created a disk image before you upgraded).

  4. 1 second image freeze exactly every minute

For what it is worth, my Acer running Windows 10 with Nvidia 630M just started doing this too. And I know it started immediately after I updated the driver for Nvidia; I was watching a video file before the update, opened the same file after updating and the computer was doing the one second freeze every minute.

A quick search on google found the new update for Nvidia (364.72 in my case) has caused quite a few problems and there does not seem to be a good way to roll back.

Another addition, I have noticed with my laptop that if I unplug it, the problem stops. Running on battery there is NO hang/freeze every minute. As soon as I plug it back in, it starts to hang/freeze every minute.

Interesting observation about the battery mode... suggests a difference in power plan affects the 1s glitch.
If you look at some of the detailed differences between your power plan settings for AC and battery, you may be able to identify one that gives you a workaround...
@Ninkyu - maybe you could try running on battery and advise..

Ok I did some tests, and for some bizarre reason the solution for me is to do it exactly the other way round: I don't get the freezes when the power is plugged in and the battery is not. I have no idea why but it works now, so thank you very much everyone for the help! (especially you dalchina) *Smile
I'm not going to mark it as solved yet though, since StillPending might not have a solution as well.

Now that's not logical Mr Spock! (Well, it must be...)

What happens if you both run on a high performance power plan?

We know it doesn't happen in Safe Mode, but then you don't have the graphics driver running anyway.
@StillPending - what is your laptop model, and is it listed as Win 10 compatible?
@Ninkyu -of the driver versions you tried, was one the one you had in Win 7?

  8. 1 second image freeze exactly every minute

I figured out why it was doing it now. It has to do with the background for me, I had it set to slideshow that changed every minute. While it is on battery slideshow is deactivated, so I turned off slideshow and set the background to a static image all the time (on battery and off) and the issue was fixed.

Excellent - hmm, wallpaper changing every minute? You must have a low boredom threshold *chuckle

(The program I use for changing my wallpaper (Wally) doesn't have any effect if I play a video and let it change the wallpaper)

I always had a single non-changing image as wallpaper
this whole problem is so strange...

Two out of the four versions came out before I switched to Win 10, so it's likely. But none of them worked properly unless I removed the battery from my laptop.

You can try the exact version of the driver you used in Win 7, however I suspect what's going on is some regular activity in Win 10 as Stillpending found. Even though you don't use it, can you check your settings for slideshow- and that it's definitely off and not set to 1 min? (Settings, search slideshow).

So many things are disabled in Safe Mode that it doesn't happen there isn't specially indicative.

I'm just wondering if there's a way of real-time monitoring the GPU..
    try this:
GPU-Z Video card GPU Information Utility
Click the sensors tab and you'll get the monitor display.
You'd obviously be looking for a periodic (1min) load indication.

I can't really remember the exact version I used in Win7, but I'm pretty sure I always had them up-to-date, so the version I'm currently using (341.74) should've been amongst them.

    Checked and it's definitely off.

Tbh now that it's working I don't really want to tinker with it, and unfortunately I don't have to do much research about it.

  15. The final acceptable fix for me that still allowed me to have a background that changed was to disable my Nvidia graphics card in device manager. After that everything was back to normal. The issue for me was Nvidia, since I know my issues started immediately after a Nvidia update.
