10 Windows 8 features that didn't make it to Windows 10

Try to update your W10 system from the legacy applet. But regardless - High Contrast Themes are an important feature of the OS for those of us that do not see well. Unless there is no support across the whole system - at least the Microsoft part - that system is not useable for me. And I really don't care whether it is old applet or new applet or whatever. In 8.1 it works throughout the 'Change Settings' and in 10 it does not. Example of 8.1:

I agree with you, whs. It's your computer to set up the way you need it to be set up. Rather than tell you you're doing it wrong, if I knew how to set up High Contrast in Windows 10, I would tell you how to do it.

  3. No Windows Media Center would be a definite deal breaker for me. I have 2 PC's with HD tuners which record programs using Windows 7 at present. Also use the PC's to play DVD's and Blu Rays and stream stuff online. Those machines would stay on Windows 7.

I agree with you, . It's your computer to set up the way you need it to be set up. Rather than tell you you're doing it wrong, if I knew how to set up High Contrast in Windows 10, I would tell you how to do it. I have all my 8.1 systems setup in High Contrast (see my previous snips). The problem in W10 is that they are missing half of the support for High Contrast. There is always hope that they will fix that.

Another problem is Office. They have their own themes and in high contrast that is a real mess. MS apparently does not have an architecture control board that controls all that. When I was developing operating systems we had such a board to control; consistency across all components.

If you just use them for media players, it doesn't really matter. However, there are plenty of third party media center apps out there...

My new HP laptop came with Cyberlink; a whole slew of stuff associated with it. It's on my HP desktop too.

Now that would be good. I could make use of that option.

Jeff I don't think it is or ever was an MS option, it was merely a hack somebody figured out, wasn't it?

I guess, but in order to be hacked, the function has to be there somehow.

I agree, the function had to be there so it could be activated via the hack.

Reworked into a toggle button but still there.

Reworked but still there (AFAIK tablets still get the Charms menu).

    Same as above.

    Windows Mobile...

Reworked into a toggle button but still there.

    Renaming isn't exactly "tossed away".

That leaves 4 features that yet may still reappear at a later time *sarc

  12. I don't want to use a 3rd party program I want to use Windows Media Center which is easy to use and does the job properly.

The Start Screen didn't get axed, it got somewhat neutered.

Media Center won't be a huge loss at all, Media Player should also leave as well but that would mean Xbox Music would have to stop sucking and we can't have that.

Share contracts are still not gone, Charms bar got removed.

It's like the author hasn't used Windows 8 nor 10... *Rolleyes

Don't know.. post feedback that it's a feature that you still want. Who knows, if enough also want it they might keep it.
