  1. 100% CPU Usage with no obvious reason

As recently as a couple of months back, my PC has been having random fits where, about once a week for ~5 minutes, my CPU usage will jump up to 100% making everything unusable for that time period. While it's at 100% everything crawls to a slow, task manager (temporarily) crashes if I try and change tabs, my internet browser will take forever to load pages etc.

I thought it was Windows Defender doing it, but I have completely disabled that and still experienced it today. The reason I thought it was that was because "Antimalware Service Executable" always turns up as one of my highest CPU usages when this is ongoing (and I say one of, because it's not the highest). This still turned up today, despite me completely turning off Windows Antivirus and Firewall. To note - it found no viruses while I had it on, so I don't think a virus is causing it.

When my PC is doing this, other programs will start using way more CPU than normal which is why the total shoots up. I have a picture of today (here). Now it's cooled down, Firefox is at 3-4% usage, not 30% and Spotify is at <1%.

This seemed to be happening every Wednesday, then stopped for a couple of weeks after I turned off the Defender setting to scan every item I use, but it started back up again as of last week or the week before. This setting is still disabled, and after last week's problems, I disabled defender altogether. (Note, today is obviously not a Wednesday, but I think it's happened on Thursday both weeks now)

My updates are mostly up to date, and my PC isn't a weakling PC - I game on it, so have a fairly decent setup. My CPU is probably a bit dated now, but it should not be rocketing up to 100% usage once a week for an unknown reason. It's very frustrating because it often happens as I'm trying to launch a game or something - in todays case, it happened while I had Firefox open with 3 tabs, Spotify running in the background and nothing else going.

I have an Intel i7-6700 CPU, GTX1080Ti GPU and 16GB of RAM. My GPU drivers are up to date, and I'm on Windows 10 Pro 1909 OS Build 18363.836. The usage of the devices isn't affected, according to the task manager. It is only my CPU.

Has anyone had the same issue and managed to fix it, because the only thing I can find online about 100% cpu is disabling/changing the defender's autoscan times. When I check the defender during the 100% usage, it is not displaying a scan running at the time. I would love to get this sorted, because it's really getting on my nerves now.

Hello everyone! So i've been experiencing quite high CPU usage (100% non stop) for no reason, i've checked my hardware/software but nothing seems to cause any issues. My PC is always using it's full CPU power even if it is task manager. I have used an antivirus (bitdefender) but it showed me nothing. Please help.

    cpu usage at 100%

CPU usage at 100% from start up for no apparently good reason. Service Host appears to be the problem but I cant narrow it down more than that at present.

    Any suggestions?

I am using Windows 10 full release version 64 bit.

100% CPU Usage NO REASON AT ALL

    Hello,

To fix high CPU usage issue, please refer these steps:

Try to identify the process creating this issue.

    Download Process Explorer from Microsoft:

    Process Explorer - Windows Sysinternals

Run the tool then select the system process, right-click and select Properties.

Switch to the Threads tab. This will show which file is using the excessive CPU usage, from which you can then attempt to diagnose it.
