Windows 10: 1366 x 768 Screen Resolution Not Available in Win 10

The funny thing is that it worked fine with 8.0 and 8.1.

I think I will leave any tinkering to the techs. I'll call my local gurus who installed 10 and see if they can talk me through it. If that doesn't work, I may just take the machine back and have them revert the system to 8.0. Spending a bunch of money on a new monitor seems like throwing good money after bad at this point. Unfortunate, too, because I quite like 10. Not having to sign back every time I go to the bathroom alone is worth the price of admission! lol

I'll let everyone know how I make out.

 

OK, everybody, here's an update...

I called the fellows who did my upgrade. It definitely appears that my graphics card is too old to be compatible with W10.

It appears that there are now two options:

(1) Revert back to W7-- I have a "window" of 30 days in which to do this, OR

(2) Install a new graphics card that is compatible with both my computer and W10. They are looking to see if they can find one at the low end cost-wise or see if they have a used one on hand.

I'm definitely leaning towards (2), as I really like what I have seen of W10.

A new monitor isn't really much of a solution because the problem really is with the graphics card, not the monitor, although I could probably find a monitor somewhere that would work with the limited number of choices of resolutions my card offers.

I won't mark this one as solved until it is finally resolved.

Wadi You need to explore the drivers for your graphics card a bit more. Maybe you can get it going with just the right driver download. You say it worked great with win 8. You could be able to use the same driver for 10. The same drivers are not always installed when you upgrade to 10. Good luck to you with your Windows ten hope you get it fixed *Smile

 

Okay you have a very old integrated Nvidia card that Windows 10 probably doesn't recognize. You need to somehow get Nvidia drivers for it and that will solve the problem. Windows 8 or even 7 drivers would most likely work.

I looked it up and others had the same problem but got it fixed by downloading and installing the driver found here.

Wow! It worked! Thank you so very much. I had been a bit afraid to play around with the system. I can change a tire, install a new battery or change the washer fluid in my car; I wasn't sure whether this was the equivalent on the computer or not. We don't know what we don't know. In this case, it wasn't much more than changing the battery-- just a matter of following directions and having patience because it took quite a while to download and install. (Our "high speed" internet out here in the country barely qualifies as such.)
