    1709 to 1803 version, finally...

For the last couple of days, I've been trying to update version 1709 to 1803. Five month should have been sufficient for MS to work out the issues, but evidently that's not the case. Anyway...

Here's the number of tries that this system had:

1709 to 1803 version, finally... [IMG]

And that despite the fact that checking the system for errors showed nothing:

1709 to 1803 version, finally... [IMG]

I dug through this forum for similar errors, tried most of them, but still no luck. The system has six internal drives and one of the drives has Windows 10 Pro, 64-bit OS, that updated from version 1709 to 1803 automatically after it had been allowed. It's unlikely that there's any hardware issues with the PC...

Using the MCT was the next step to do an update. Unfortunately, running the MCT showed this:

1709 to 1803 version, finally... [IMG]

Have to admit, that's sort of funny message, except the question of now what?

The answer is to download the ISO, mount the image and run the setup. For some reason, I've ended up at this site to download the ISO image:

    Download Windows 10

The top of this page states "Windows 10 April 2018 Update now available", with a link of "Update now". Clicking on the link downloaded the update assistant that installed, started the process of updating and it actually updated Windows from version 1709 to 1803.

In my view, the update process for Windows 10 is getting worse by every release. It's said, that people routinely just start fresh, if and when the update does not work. Being tenacious does pay off at times... *Wink

But I still wonder, why the update assistant worked, but the auto update failed?

    :)

    Version 1803 or 1709?

I have a Dell Inspiron 660S, 64-bit, running Windows Home Edition 10. After some recent Windows updates, I noticed I have version 1709 & OS Build 16299.666. In viewing my recent updates, I saw there had been a feature update to Windows 10, version 1803.
It keeps showing that it requires a restart to finish installing, although it's been restarted many times. There is no error code. It seems to me that version 1803 would be a later version than 1709, but I'm not sure. So should I be running version 1803 or
1709? If 1803, how do I get it to finally install?
