    1903 Update Error


    I've successfully installed this update on my laptop but it has failed a couple of times on my desktop machine, the first time it didn't like that I had a USB flash drive plugged in so I removed it and the second time it gave me the following error 0xC1900101 – 0x40017 is as follows: The installation failed at the SECOND_BOOT phase with an error during BOOT operation, this looks similar to some historic errors people were getting on older versions of Windows 10 installs.

    Mine is fully up to date apart from the 1903 and all my drivers are current and correct.

    Basic system spec

    Intel Core i5 8600K

    ASUS TUF Z370-PLUS Gaming

    16GB (2x8GB) Corsair Vengeance 2666MHz DDR4 Memory

    Samsung 970 Evo 500GB M2 drive

    MSI NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 6GB

    I would suggest going through the guided walkthrough for fixing windows update errors. It is a great resource that will take you step by step in order to fix any issues with windows update.

    Also to note, for update 1903 I believe you would need to be a part of the windows insider program to receive that update.

    Resolution Suggestion:

    # To resolve this problem, make sure that BITS and the Automatic Updates service are started..

    A simple solution but one that works in most circumstances!

    1. Click Start, click Run, type services.msc, and then click OK.

    2. In the list of services, right-click Automatic Updates, and then click Properties.

    3. In the Startup type list, click Automatic, and then click Apply.

    4. If Service status is set to Stopped, click Start, and then click OK.

    5. Right-click Background Intelligent Transfer Service, and then click Properties.

    6. In the Startup type list, click Manual, and then click Apply.

    7. If Service status is set to Stopped, click Start, and then click OK.
