Windows 10: 1903 update from 1803 consistently fails

The update seems to complete normally up until the first restart. Upon restart, I have a black screen. I have tried the following steps to resolve it:


- Control-alt-delete at the black screen (allegedly a Microsoft recommended fix).

- control-shift-alt-windows-b to reset or switch graphics drivers or something

- disable and restart the update service

- confirming i have enough space on that SSD (>50gb)

- disable anti-virus

- remove all unnecessary accessories from the computer

- disable fast boot

- Windows update troubleshooter

- Windows update assistant

- DISM and SFC repair tools
- in-place upgrade from a USB stick created with the media creation tool


None of those work. And I think I'm missing a step or two that I tried to resolve it. This is simply unacceptable and every time there is a major feature update I fear the potential consequences. Microsoft, get your act together! How do I fix this without a clean install?

Windows 10 Version 1803 update fails consistently (take 2)

Sorry, that's my mistake - I didn't explicitly only try to update to 1803...I believe that maybe Windows Update was trying to install 1803, 1809 , and 1903 in sequential order and got held up with 1803.

Most recently, I did try to use Windows 10 Update Assistant to install 1903, which also failed:







I did block Windows Update for a while back when 1803 consistently failed to install, but I've since unblocked it and it still continues to error out even if I attempt to install the latest version.

I'm assuming the update 1803 to 1903 has now resumed after the earlier problems caused a suspension?

Any thoughts, suggestions?

Hi..I recently downloaded and installed the new windows updates..I have the 1903 update on desktop but a failed on my other desktop that has 1803..it fails on downloading the 1903..is there a site or link that i can go to and get the 1903 update?thanks
