    1909 - Windows Defender freezes mid scan.. constant "quick scan due"


    Howdy!

    I installed Windows 10 Pro completely fresh (new cpu, new motherboard, new drive) in December and since then the little windows defender icon in the tray has had the yellow ! triangle telling me a quick scan is due.
    But whenever I perform a quick scan (or a full scan, or any other scan) it will just eventually freeze up (window remains interactive, scan just ceases to progress) at a random point. It doesn't seem to be a fixed point, sometimes it gets stuck at 6097 files, sometimes 5849 (these are random numbers, not any specific ones I've noticed).

    Is this just a known issue with 1909? We have another PC downstairs that doesn't get used much outside of spring/summer, but I updated that recently and it also ran into the same issue of getting stuck on defender scans. That pc was updated from 18xx or whatever the previous windows 10 build was.

    Windows Defender - Quick Scan

    Windows defender no longer offers a quick scan option.

    My options are:

    • Scan
    • Advanced Scan
    • Full Scan
    • Custom Scan
    • Windows Defender Offline scan
    Whichever option I check, the scan will need to run for hours to complete.

    Is a quick scan available?

    How do I restore this feature?

    Windows Defender Scanning

    Hi,

    My Windows Defender freezes after scanning few files, both in quick scan and full scan. can't get any scanning done. I have Windows 10, Please suggest a way forward.

    Uninstalled but still having the issues with the quick scan.

    As far as the article goes, again, it explains the features and why they did certain things when it comes to the window S mode. I get that. I'm not trying to start a quick scan or any scan for that matter. There seems to be an issue with Windows Defender
    constantly saying that a quick scan is due and I can select for it scan now but nothing is accomplished. Upon searching there are quite a few others experiencing the same issues with overdue scan, as well as the windows update issue.
