2 different KB3189866 updates, or is it just the same thing ?

Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1607 for x64-based Systems (KB3189866) was stuck at 98% so I downloaded and installed it manually (link provided by Softpedia).

    File 431MB
    windows10.0-kb3189866-x64_2c3e91a8162269579c8bf26a502c620d41efef0d.msu
    CRC32: 8AF704A8
    MD5: FDB49C60E76279762637D66A68C10DED
    SHA-1: 2C3E91A8162269579C8BF26A502C620D41EFEF0D

But one thing is bothering me though :

In my update history it shows that Security Update for Windows (KB3189866) is successfully installed, while Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1607 for x64-based Systems (KB3189866) has failed to install and need to be downloaded again.

I'm confused : are they actually not the same thing ?
Are there 2 different updates with the same KB number ?
    *Huh

    :)

  2. KB 3189866

I am experiencing the same problem. After installing kb3189866. Cannot reconnect at logon error.

After disconnecting the drives, cannot map to them anymore, get 'The mapped network drive could not be created because the following error has occurred: A specified logon session does not exist. It may already have been terminated.'

Trying to connect to a WD My Book World drive. Did a system restore to before the installation of kb3189866 and the other updates that came out on tuesday, and all my networked drives were properly mapped. Just installed kb3189866 by itself without the
other updates, and the problem reappeared.

Out of 3 systems, 2 of them experience this problem, a desktop and a laptop. 1 desktop did not develop this problem. Only major difference that I can see between these systems is the one that had no problems was using a local account, the 2 that failed
    were MS accounts for logon.

Security Update for Windows (KB3189866) and Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1607 for x64-based Systems (KB3189866)

It's hard to believe there is nobody at Microsoft Support Forum knowing the answer
    to this simple question :

What's the difference between successfully installed
Security Update for Windows (KB3189866) and
Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1607 for x64-based Systems (KB3189866) that has
failed ? Isn't it the same thing ?

According to my update history - the latter is still to be downloaded and installed again.

But I suspect it might be WU error. ...... Am I right or wrong ?

    ..............................................

Due to known problems with downloading by Win.Update (stuck 98%) I had to download 431MB file manually :

    windows10.0-kb3189866-x64_2c3e91a8162269579c8bf26a502c620d41efef0d.msu

    CRC32: 8AF704A8

    MD5: FDB49C60E76279762637D66A68C10DED

    SHA-1: 2C3E91A8162269579C8BF26A502C620D41EFEF0D

Why would I need to download it again ?

2 different KB3189866 updates, or is it just the same thing ?

No Microsoft aren't trying to confuse you, they're actually trying to be helpful by recording a full history of your PC's attempts to update.

Both entries refer to the same update. The update history is in chronological order, newest event at the top. The 'failed' KB189866 will be lower in the list, and tells you that on that date update failed. The 'successful' KB189866 will be higher up, showing that subsequently you manually installed it and succeeded. The different wording (the 'Security update' part of the name) shows that it was done with the stand-alone package rather than through the automatic windows update.
