Windows 10: 2018 Surface Pro not working with external hard drives

Hi there


So problem is I bought a surface pro with Windows 10. Had a brand new WD 4TB hard drive that just stopped working as it was started to be recognized as a Local Disk. So I tried all the fixes these threads could tell me with no luck.


So I purchased a Toshiba 2TB and now when I go to transfer files across I get a message saying that there is not enough space on the Local disk?! The external is formatted as NTFS.


Anyone who knows what is going on please let me know this issue is driving me insane and I wish I had stuck with Apple now.

Thanks for this. I've done what you suggested and been through all the steps mentioned in the article. The hard drive works fine on a Mac computer, and I've managed to copy the information on it. It must be a Surface issue so I'll try to get a chat line tomorrow.

We suggest that you try the troubleshooting steps below:

• Open your External Hard Drive file in File Explorer.
• Type the name of the file you want to search on the search box and click Enter.

The file will show up in Search Results and you will be able to move it to the correct folder.
