  1. 4K resolution through a VGA cabel with a 1080p TV?!

I connected my PC to my 1080p TV and when I went to the setting I saw that 3840x2160 resolution is available, even at 60 Hz. How is that possible? It's even through a VGA cabel, which supports a maximum res. of 2048x1536. Last time I connected the TV the maximum res. available was 1920x1200, which is also strange because the TV is only 1920x1080. See for yourself:

  2. Screen resolution

    Hello, my name is Alex

I have 2 screens on my setup , one monitor that with it's maximum resolution of 1080p and a 4k tv, and i would like to keep my 4k tv at 1080p because everytime i move an app or folder from monitor to tv it must be rescaled, so i changed my tv resolution
    to 1080p.

My question is , if i keep my tv on 1080p and run games or movies at 4k resolution, it's going to be like an upscale, like i use a normal 1080p monitor and force a 4k video or game on it, or it's going to display the 4k content correctly?

  3. Ink Workspace and Multiple Monitors

Due to scaling issues I need to set one of the 1080p monitors as my default.

Because my tablet has a 4K resolution, if the 4K screen is set as the main display, all content on my 1080p monitors is scaled wrong and blurry. This occurs even when the 1080p screens are set to 'size
    100%'

This issue does not occur if one of the 1080p monitors is set as the main display.

That is not what that means.
Windows is not getting back the info from the TV about specified resolutions that it supports because it's a VGA type connection.
That is a 'generic' range of resolutions your Graphics Card will support but not necessarily the monitor.

You would have to use HDMI for that, you would probably also get a model/manufacturers/TV name rather than 'Generic PnP Monitor'.

Don't think I have seen TVs with DisplayPort but someone will know, mine are a few years old.

Some years ago, before HDMI, Monitors (VGA) were supplied with a 'driver' which basically was an *.INF and *.ICM file. The *.INF file told Windows what resolutions etc the monitor supported and the *.ICM was a colour profile.
I don't think such driver files were ever supplied for consumer TVs.
