    I got same black screen issue perhaps caused by update KB4074588. Unfortunately App Readiness disabled didn't work for me and black screen 5 min continues after each boot. I did another post here last weekend in this forum, as I have another boot issue. Maybe @Kari could help, he is a Finn too and I'll send him a message for this thread

    Make a boot trace and I'll take a look at it.

    I don't think his helpfulness is based on nationality.

    He helped me a few times and I couldn't point out Finland on a map.

    Even on a map with a big yellow arrow saying "FINLAND!".

    Well probably I could but you get the point.

    Got the point, thanks. I'll record boot trace now as zinou asked

    First boot trace didn't quite make it until desktop, and with suggested selections in recorder it's 380M even compressed. I sent link to zinou as private message. I suppose 380M is too big, which options are suggested to be selected to have decent boot trace record?

    I always start with cpu and disk IO. Usually it's sufficient for most cases. And if there is need to have network or other events I'll take another boot trace.

    That decreased size for 111M, a private message to zinou for link was just sent. Still record was succeed in time of half until desktop. I had also First level triage selected, is that necessary?

    I sent the boot trace record also to lx07 as private message, I don't dare to share these public

    I don't think there is a risk - it doesn't contain private information. Anyway it downloads fine. I got this warning looking at it - don't know if it matters:

    But the most obvious thing to me was the system was sat at log on for 40 seconds while DropboxUpdate was running.

    Lets see what @zinou says - I can't really understand these files to be honest - I am just learning.

    Uninstalled dropbox, after that boot tracer completed all 3 records and record files were sent to Ix07 and zinou. Then complete switch off and switch on, black screen 5 minutes still same. Dropbox isn't the case I suppose.

    Max 5 messages per day is the limit. So I cannot solve this today it seems in this forum, meaning these 2 private messages were not sent.

    Fact is that dropbox uninstall was not the answer for 5 min Black Screen issue, there is something else in that Windows update KB4074588 in my (random) case

    There is a lot of events dropped during this trace. usually is due to high disk I/O but in this case the disk is SSD !
    nonetheless I can pick up some clues.
    @lx07 the first thing to look at to determine from where to begin analysis is these thumbnails at the left. Especially those of CPU and Disk.
    We can easily see that there is a high cpu usage ! and it's caused by svchost.exe (3084).This process is calling functions from the AppXDeploymentServer.dll module.

    svchost.exe (3084) hosts the AppX Deployment Service (AppXSVC). The AppX Deployment Service “deploys” Store apps !

    Disabling this service will probably solve your problem. But it's not the root cause, and you'll not be probably able to install Application from the store.

    Pushing my curiosity further, I've noticed the thread 284 of the System(4).exe process has been readied 13268 times by the svchost's thread 9896. So big chances that the svchost thread was called by the system thread 284.

    Let's take a look at what this thread was doing:

    readyboost functions calls !
    Have you enabled readyboost on some usb keys, drivers or SD cards ?
    Readyboost is also used in combination with superfetch service. you have an SSD disk, so superfetch will not give you noticeable improvements. so you can disable it.

    My theory (May be I'm wrong): superfetch try to prefetch some data or files needed by an application loaded from the store; those data are not present in you disk and windows try to load them from the store and install the missed packages, but something goes wrong !

    suggestions:
    • See the events log, may be you can find some clues about this application;
    • run this command to re-install missed packages: Get-AppXPackage *WindowsStore* -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}
    Regards,

    This command didn't go through, as

    I'll disable now those two other (AppX Deployment Service and Readyboost) and see if that makes difference.
