Hi.

Two days ago win10 update KB4592449 installed on hp G72 laptop which is now damaged beyond repair as a result of the update.

First, all the installed apps disappeared, desktop changed beyond recognition and system slowed so much after each request, I made tea while I waited for it to respond.

I uninstalled KB4592449 update.

When I restarted the pc,, it froze.

I tried to boot it in safe mode several times without success.

When I turn it on now, blue screen and a continuous bleeping sound.

Each time I turn it on the process to the bleeping sound is slower.

2nd pc Lenovo Ideapad L340 had not updated so I turned off and stopped windows updates permanently.

Today, I saw that KB4592449 was waiting to complete installation.

I went to 'Uninstall updates' and saw that it had not been installed.

I checked update settings and updates were On and running????

I was horrified.

I paused updates until January 21 AND again I went to 'services', stopped it running and turned it off permanently, 'save and exist'.

When I restarted the pc, windows was configuring updates, 'do not turn off your computer'.

I turned off the pc, restart, configuring, off.

This happened several times.

Now 2nd pc is stuck in 'Boot Menu'.

I changed the order to 1. ATA HDD: WDC WD 10SPZX-24Z10

2. Windows Boot Manager.

It's still stuck in Boot Menu.

I don't have recovery usb stick, pen and the cd/dvd drive is sealed.

Can anyone advise re next step?

Wait, but have you done the whole step-by-step guide described in the OP? DDL/DTS isn't supported natively by Windows 8/8.1 either, unless if you do the steps listed there.

DTS supported natively by Windows 8/8.1 and it should work on windows 10 too just DDL require to unlock your driver .

Windows 8 failure configuring updates and reverting

did you try it out? windows 8 is a complete fuck up and even microsoft knew it. so they left it as is and made windows 8.1... i suggest first going up to windows 8.1..

I agree 8 is awful! It's not for me though... I replaced a broken screen in a Win 8 laptop that was given to me and I am going to give it for free to someone that can't afford one so they can do homework at home. Yes I took it from 8 to 8.1 back on 10/09/2014. This is what I posted there...

1. Step 1 should read to disable AUTOMATIC updates, not disable manual updates.

2. KB2871398 should really read KB2871389

I would like to say that KB2917499 may also be needed as it was in my case. I also had to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter after installing those 2 updates. After these steps I was able to begin my 8.1 download from the Microsoft store. I don't know if it made a difference or not, but I also went into the Bios and disabled "Secure Boot."
