A full windows defender scan kills system I/O video and USB

    Greetings,

As of about a week ago every time I run a full windows defender scan my system's I/O video and USB crash the rest of the PC seems to remain running. However as I have lost all I/O I have to hard power off the system. The only item in the Event View is the hard power cycle nothing around the lost of I/O.

Quick scans work fine, this only happens with a Full Scan option, I have wiped the system and reinstalled it 4 times only divers installed and used different HD setups, once the system is fully updated the issue reappears.

    Windows 10 Pro version 1909 build 18363.836

    Any thoughts out there ?

    Thanks

    :)

    Hi Ian,

Thanks for posting your query on Microsoft Community.

This issue might occur if you have set any task scheduler for Windows Defender.

I suggest you to delete the task for Windows defender and check if it helps.

    Follow the below steps:

    • Search and open Schedule tasks.

    • In the left-hand menu, open the Task Scheduler Library, then select
      Microsoft >Windows >Windows Defender.

    • Double-click Windows Defender Scheduled Scan.

    • Select the Triggers panel, then select Delete.

Hope it helps, reply to us with the status of your issue. We will be happy to assist you.

Windows defender custom scan does not scan external drives

I tried the custom scan in Defender Windows 10. It brings up the list of drives but the "OK" button remains grayed out when I select any drive in the list, so still unable to scan external drives... Any suggestion would be appreciated.
