    A gamer's dream Windows 10 on PS4?

You don't have to speculate, it's public knowledge that it's running Orbis OS, which is a customer fork of FreeBSD 9 (not Linux). The binaries are specially compiled for it and digitally signed; even trying to run a "regular" version of FreeBSD would fail, much less Windows. There isn't even a standard bootloader for it. The entire premise behind this thread is just....weird *Smile

So the conclusion is that even if we partially install Windows 10 on a spare hard disk using the imagex utility, it won't boot because there is no standard BIOS or EFI in PS4. This is more like it. At least it is a satisfying explanation why it cannot be done. Unlike the usual "It doesn't work" reply. *Smile

I would ask about Xbox One, but the reply would probably be similar...

You could ask or you could Google around and find the exact same answer like you could have with the PS4 because, again, these consoles have been out for two years and this has long been settled *Smile

Reverse your thinking. With the similarities between the PS4 and a PC, I'm sure we could (for research purposes ONLY, *Wink) emulate a PS4 on a modern gamer-grade PC.

I'm not even going to dip my little toe in that sea of litigation, though.

The problem with emulators is they require so much horsepower to run on PCs especially when CPUs/GPUs/SPUs are specific to consoles...they still cannot emulate all PS2 games no matter how fast your system is...I was more into xbox than PS2 during that era, so I didn't get a chance to play many PS2 games and I always wanted to play 24...so I bought it, still have it to this day, waiting for an emulator that can play it, it stutters so bad it's not playable and I ended up buying an asus G751 series laptop which is fully loaded and its still not beefy enough so I continue to wait.

However, MS on the other hand already has the 360 emulator running on technically, a slower PC, so I can see emulating 360 gmaes on PC happening, especially with Win10 and the whole xbox integration, but again, not sure if and when it will happen...any dvd drive can also read 360 games while most older PCs need a bluray to read PS4/XB1 games but time will tell. *Smile

Also if I were to take a stab at it, I would assume the emulator would become an app in the store, the xbox controllers already work with windows and from a marketing standpoint, think of all the PC only gamers...this would open a door to them and they may also start playing 360 games (if they package games online like they do on the xbox system) this is additional income with little effort on MS part.

The minimum systems requirements of such an XBOX360 emulator would be 8-core CPU, 24GB RAM, 4GB VGA...

Yes, it will be possible in some year time, but by then XB2 and PS5 will be out and we'll be talking about emulating XB1.

For the time being, we can play some PS2 games in PCSX2 emulator, if we don't overdo it with graphics settings. If we put the settings low or medium, it can also run in a typical PC with 2GB RAM and discrete VGA. Not at 100% speed, but playable.

Except that Microsoft will have lock out the option to run PC games on the Xbox One, otherwise everyone would buy one and run PC games as well. And the Windows 10 version for Xbox One it should be very limited. It is like comparing Windows Embedded with standard Windows.

  11. Right Windows 10 for the X box One is likely specific for that device .

Of course ...........PC games will still be code optimized different and not gimped like they are for the Xbox One just as before but with DX 12 and W 10 they might actually be able to game at 1080p on the Xbox One instead of 900p .

OTOH the console slaves are getting DX 12 in the deal though and putting the GPU & game api closer to the metal and getting some Windows 10 features + apps and monetization for M.S. ☻☻

Ofc even with DX 12 the Xbox One low end HDWE spec cant touch a stonking or good mid range PC dGPU + a decent CPU for gaming anyway it may just put it on par with a PS4 ☻

I will say this one more time. The PS4 CPU will only process digitally signed Sony code. You either need to hack the CPU, or change it completely. It's an exercise in futility, just use a PC.

    A gamer's dream Windows 10 on PS4?

So it seems PS4 cannot natively run Windows. It has to be done with a x86 virtual machine that would expose the real CPU, the real GPU and as much as possible RAM, but again performance would suffer, so it is not worth the trouble... The whole point is to avoid using a virtual machine to get full performance.
