Windows 10: A grey box appears then disappears when signing into microsoft account

Well, I put in a new bigger hard drive and more memory in the laptop. The Windows 10 install went great from the USB. All activated. I've been adding all my Adobe apps (Photoshop, Illustrator, Lightroom, Dreamweaver) all went well. Then I decide to try the "Store". There's a couple of apps I want. What? Store doesn't open. I get a white window, then it closes. Over and over it does that. This is on fresh install on a new hard drive. I've tried the PowerShell thing in the CMD (admin).

I also tried in CMD -
Get-Appxpackage -Allusers (to see the list)

Add-AppxPackage -register "C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\Microsoft.WindowsStore_8wekyb3d8bbwe\AppxManifest.xml" -DisableDevelopmentMode

Says it doesn't exist. But I see the folder in File Manager.

Still doesn't work. Cortana works, Start menu works, just not the Store. What the heck?

Additional remarks: I just added my husband's Microsoft account as another user to this PC, to see what files it would have for the Store, and the Store icon is greyed out. So that didn't help.

SOLVED - STORE WON'T OPEN

Yay, I finally got it to work. After trying different strings with the PowerShell, I found that I had too much of the string (like above).

This is what finally worked for me.

Right-click -
Start/Command Prompt (Admin)

type -
PowerShell

then add this string -

PowerShell -ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted -Command "& {$manifest = (Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.WindowsStore).InstallLocation + '\AppxManifest.xml' ; Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register $manifest}"

Done. No Rebooting.

 

It isn't working, for one, it says "=" is not a term and if i delete it, it asks for a path but don't know what to put, please help

 

I'm experiencing the same thing. No other trouble with the computer as far as I can tell, I am just unable to access the app store due to the login requirement. How can I fix this?

 

Had same problem.

This is what I did and it strangely worked. I had to add a password to my account. I guess I never had one in windows 7?

Then I signed out and signed back in. It now works. I dunno why? But that worked for me.

 

Did you have this issue in Windows 10?
You're logged in under a local account and you go into Settings and click "Sign in with a Microsoft Account instead." A box flashes, but nothing else happens. You aren't able to sign in. You spend hours/days trying to figure out, and you can't get through to Windows Support (this was my situation all weekend). Here's what you should do:
- Type User Accounts in your search bar and select "Change User Account Control Settings"
- Check your settings---if the lowest option is selected, this is your problem! Change your option to the Windows recommended option (in bold). It should be one option below "Always Notify."
- Restart your computer. Upon restart, you should see that Cortana is working. But if she's not, select the Windows store icon in your taskbar.
- Click the Sign in option.
- Sign in and answer that you'd like to use your Microsoft Account to access the computer.
- (Optional) Sign out to make sure changes have saved.
- (Optional) Sign back in and all should work (see notes below if you have problems with Cortana).

This worked for me and it took me over a day (THIRTY FREAKING HOURS) to figure it out because Windows Support never called for my appointment and a L1 Tech couldn't figure it out. Hope it works for you, too.

If, after your change, you're having problems with Cortana because you’re unable to enable location access (meaning it’s grayed out, preventing you from enabling it), see below.

Follow the steps below:
- type "msconfig" in your search bar, right click System Configuration and select "Pin to Taskbar." (trust me, this will help for the next step).
- Restart your computer in Safe Mode (in Windows 10, to start your computer in Safe Mode, hold the shift button when you select "Restart" then select Troubleshooting -> Advanced Options -> Startup Settings -> Restart -> Option 4: Boot in Safe Mode
- Once your computer has started in Safe Mode, select System Configuration from your taskbar.
- Under General, select “Normal Startup” then click “Apply” and “OK.”
- Restart your computer and all will work!

 

Thank you rddennis, this solves my issue. My PC've been infected recently, the virus must have changed this setting.

 

Okay so I've had this issue and i just fixed it..

What i had to do was go to the control panel, go to accounts, then manage credentials, click windows credentials, clear other items (SSO_POP_User) completely, also clear any generic, and windows credentials, cert based credentials.


So when you go to sign in basically it starts from square one. For some reason my path way so to speak was corrupted and put in a loop. When i cleared the above items it allowed me to download apps again.

Which was super weird because yesterday i was able to download skype, and i tried downloading MyTwitch app and it asked me to sign in.. I set it so im always signed in when you enter the initial password to get into the computer. So that was strange.. it also had me set up a new account which was also weird.

But i digress, when i completed the above it fixed the issue and i was able to download apps again.
