He has some interesting reviews of all kinds of subjects. Definitely worth reading - not only for the IT sections.

  2. Yep start8 or classic shell will fill the ticket,
It's a pity Microsoft makes people do it though instead of taking note to people wants natively.

Give me a detailed review of "War and Peace" in a 10 word sentence.

    Really?

    From the blog:
    True.

    False.

It took at least 5 seconds (if not longer) to respond though (I initially thought that it was broken).

    True.
    Only two sizes though.

    True.

I'm using a Local Account and Cortana doesn't work, despite changing Language, Region and Time Zone to US.

    True (subjective).

True.I don't know if it is still "blacklisted", but it wouldn't install in my VM.

Why this big clash of opinions regarding other people's reviews. We all have the TP and can draw our own conclusions. I am sure that my conclusions are not the same as your conclusions and the same goes for those reviewers. We all have our biases and preferences.

You are trying to install Version 4.1.0 which does not support Win 10. You need to download and install Classic Shell Beta Version 4.2.0 to make it work.

Here's how it works on mine:

You can still switch to the native 9926 Start Menu within the Classic Shell start menu.

Agree with that - I've read some good ones in the past. This one wasn't great but got him his clicks I guess.

I just installed Classic Shell myself, after changing back to the Start Screen. I like it better than the native Start Menu. I hope that you installed the Beta Version 4.2.0 (with Win 10 support) and NOT the Stable Version 4.1.0.

With Classic Shell, you don't really remove the native start menu. You can go back to it anytime with the included shortcut.

Attachment 12159 Yes, I did install the newest beta version. Using that link in the Classic Shell menu will take you to either the the Start Screen or the new Start Menu depending on which UI I am currently running. So will the Windows key or the shift Windows key.

  9. Thanks for the tip badrobot. *Smile

I was just checking out statements in the article.

I specifically ignored the beta version when I went to the site to download Classic Shell.
It seemed like a good idea not to run beta software on a beta OS. *Redface

The W10 Start Menu is adequate.

That is true for a more complicated programs like AV, etc. It's only a start menu anyway. *Smile

Yep, I'm a glutton for punishment, but so far, everything is playing nice.
