Will there be installation problems with PCs that use directory junctions to relocate the Users folder?

In my computer's setup, the C drive is a 240GB SSD and the D drive is a 2 TB HDD. Due to previous bad experiences relocating the bulky Users folders from the C drive to the D drive through the "Location" tab in select folders, I use the directory junction
link method of relocating the Users folder to the appropriate drive.

With the User folder on the C drive being a junction link to the User folder on the D drive, will there be problems upgrading either Windows 7 or Windows 8 to Windows 10?

Further, is there an actual working option that doesn't break and cause other wild problems, the location tab in specific User folder properties for example, in Windows 10 to properly relocate the Users folder to a secondary drive?

Will there be installation problems with PCs that use directory junctions to relocate the Users folder?

When I did the initial upgrade, Windows 10 didn't work properly. I had Windows 10 verified on my MS account, and then I used the Windows 10 ISO and did a full install.

In Windows 10, they disabled symbolic links. If you are wanting to move the Users folder, I have an alternate trick, and it involves a step you need to do anyway.

If you have a second drive, I suggest copying everything of importance from the C drive to a its own folder on the 2nd drive. If you verified your MS account in Windows 10, get the full installation ISO. Basically, blow away the C drive and reinstall Windows
10 from scratch. During the full installation, I used the "during installation" steps from the link below for moving the Users folder to the D drive.

    http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/1964-users-folder-move-location-windows-10-a.html

During my upgrade, the upgrade process failed because of the junction link. I had to relocated the Users folder to upgrade. For you, you may have to copy the objects over, but I still strongly advise a full installation after verifying Windows 10 on your
account. From there, you can start from scratch.

About Relocate ProgramData Folder to D partition using junction link ?

    Using/understanding junctions and links

My question is about understanding what a junction or link means. Short version first, longer second.

    This link:

About Relocate ProgramData Folder to D partition using junction link ? [IMG]

Properties indicates "backup" is a folder is on the C: drive and is 156 GB (C: is a 110 GB SSD).

The properties for the files show the C: drive location as well.

So, if the path for the link does not show in properties and the file/folder size is clearly too larger to actually exist on the C: drive, how do I determine where the files are actually located?

    Long Version/additional details

~2 years ago, I wanted to relocate my iPhone backup folder to a larger data drive.

At some point--between Windows updates and iTunes updates, the link/junction isn't working properly.

I know there are options I could follow for moving the USERS directory or creating links and such to allow me to relocate the backup and get things working again.

Before I do that, I thought I'd like to try to figure out what has happened so I can either avoid it in the future or do something different, plus locate/relocate the existing backups. Right now, I just need to know how to decipher this junction since the information doesn't seem to show up in Properties.

As a long time Windows and before that DOS user, I hate using iTunes, but it is what it is. Kind of stuck with it for now.

    thanks, Mike
