  1. access a USB drive on Windows 10, but have been greeted with the 'Access Denied' message

Hello. I have been trying to access a USB drive on Windows 10, but have been greeted with the 'Access Denied' message.

I checked the following regedit entry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\USBSTOR -> Start is set to 3, so USB drivers should be allowed.

I also checked the following Group Policy settings:

User Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> System -> Removable Storage Access

Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> System -> Removable Storage Access

and all of the settings contained in 'Removable Storage Access' are set to 'Not configured', so the USB drive should be allowed, yet it is not.

Are there any other settings in Windows which restrict access to USB drives?

    :)

Access is denied when connecting USB drive

I am running WIn 10 Pro on an HP ProDesk 400 G4.
When I attach a thumb drive or Western Digital Passport hard drive to the USB port, the drive is assigned a letter, but if I try to access it, I get the message “You don’t currently have permission to access this folder. Click Continue to permanently get access
to this folder.” When I click the Continue button, the next message that appears says “You have been denied permission to access this folder. To gain access to this folder, you will need to use the
security tab.” When I click on the security tab link, the Properties of the drive are displayed, but there is no Security Tab displayed, only General, Tools, Hardware, Sharing and Customize tabs. I am logged in
as an administrator, so I am not sure why I am being denied access. I have plugged the drives into other systems (including Win 10 machines) and have had no problem accessing the drives and data. Only on this desktop system, which because my old desktop system
crashed, had become my primary machine. I also found that if I boot into Safe Mode (via MSCONFIG), I can access the drive and data fine. So how can I fix this so I can access my USB drives in normal mode? I appreciate all suggestions. Thanks in advance.

    USB Denied Access

I am running windows 10 and have a 32 bit OS, I can't get access to my usb ports. The error message says I'm denied access. I have tied various USB drives in the ports and none work. I have tried the drives on other computers and they work fine. How
do I fix this? At one point everything worked.

Access denied for internal secondary drive

    Hi All,

I have a laptop running windows 10. A few weeks ago it started coming up with an error message on startup about recycle bin is corrupt on D:\ (my secondary drive). I now get access denied whenever I try to open the files/folders on the drive and am losing
will to live as this drive has all of my work and family photo's etc... on.

    • I have downloaded the take ownership tool and it is saying access denied.
    • Tried changing the drive owner on security and it wont let me as it says access denied (current owner is listed as SYSTEM).
    • Tried changing the security groups and privileges and it won't let me, access denied.
    • Admin has full control privileges and so I enabled the windows admin account (net user administrator /active:yes) and logged in but that still says access denied. My account is also an admin account but still access denied.
    • Tried switching onedrive off as heard that can cause an issue and no luck.
    • Tried using local account rather than Microsoft account and still access denied.
    • Tried a reset of the PC, still no luck
I really am at a loss now and don't really want to have to take it to a computer shop to get them to try and retrieve.

The laptop was originally on windows 7 but upgraded to windows 10 fine. I am struggling as cannot find any other solutions on the internet, anyone go any ideas.

    Cheers

    Will
