Thanks, I won't have access to my desktop for a while but I'll be sure to try this when I get a chance and report back!

    Hello everyone!
I'll post this here since it's one of the top google results for this particular problem.
Here's how to properly un-merge your pictures and document folders from OneDrive:
    • Right-click the OneDrive icon in the system tray
    • Select "Settings"
    • Select the "Automatic saving" (rough translation from my native language, sorry)
    • Select "This PC only" on both drop-downs, for Documents and Pictures.
    • Click OK
Voila, you have it. Now you can properly move your Documents and Pictures to wherever you like, while keeping the OneDrive functional.
Perhaps we can make an proposal to Microsoft to add a dialog "If you move this folder, you'll no longer automatically save documents/pictures in OneDrive. Are you sure?". I'm positive that a lot of people would be happy.

Hi, I ended up resolving my problem by reinstalling my operating system (technically, I did a clean install of Windows 8.1, set everything up, then re-upgraded, though just a simple clean install of Windows 10 probably would have done it).

Note that I did not reinstall just to fix this issue, but it was a happy side effect!

Access Denied - moving Pictures folder to default or other locations

What a royal pain in the @$$.... I turned on my computer 1 day and my Pictures and Documents were relocated to C:....."onedrive" and off my D: drive (storage). I never asked it to do that, and I can't undue it apparently..... after a ton of searching and screwing around, I was at least able to relocate the onedrive to D:....."onedrive", and then unsync it, so they are being saved on my storage drive. But in the process, something about the documents folder got corrupted and I cant access settings on it anymore...

If I do a clean reinstall of Windows 10, will it clear the onedrive problem, or will it remember my settings and put me right back where I am now?

  5. Yes it will fix the problem. One of the initial setup questions is whether you want to use OneDrive or not. I've just done it and it's that error that I came here to find the solution to.

I actually fixed it by creating a 2nd user acct and deleting the first, then renaming the 2nd.

    Thanks for your answer though.

Thank you for your advice. I tried everything but only this solved my problem. After unlinking the PC from OneDrive , move OneDrive folder to an external disk or to another folder in your laptop and the problem is solved. After that, if you try to move again OneDrive folder back to C:\users"your name" folder, this time Windows warns you that it will merge user folders with OneDrive folders. So leave OneDrive folder to another place, differend from the above path. Even if you put it into your regenerated Documents folder (after the above steps), will not cause any problem.
