Access the directory tree on one computer from another computer

I have a laptop and desktop computer. Microsoft set an icon on each computer to access the directory tree on the other computer by clicking on the icon. This is no longer working. When I phoned Microsoft Support they gave me a case number and told me they were passing me on to someone that would work with me on this problem. I waited on the phone for 38 minutes and nobody answered.

If you know how to set this up I would appreciate the information.

OR if you know how to get a Technical Support technician to talk to me and get this working again, please tell me how!

    :)

One computer cannot access other network computers.

So I've tried every troubleshooting step I know:
    • Double checked that Net Bios was enabled
    • Ran a bunch of network commands:
      • flushed DNS
      • registered dns
      • pinged and located the named computers successfully
    • Reset my router to factory settings

Nothing works when I try to access via explorer. I'm still baffled by the fact that every other computer can access each other AND access this computer. It's just the outgoing connection from this machine that doesn't work.

    Any thoughts?

  3. win7 directory tree printing

    Hey, that worked.

Now changed current directory to D:\ and entered

    tree /f > "%UserProfile%\Desktop\Treed.txt"

    I presumed that I would get a list for D:\ in treed.txt

No sign of treed.txt on the desktop but no error messages either.

Your command is correct. If you cannot see TreeD.txt on your desktop then you probably misspelt the command. This command would also be correct:

    tree D:\ /f > "%UserProfile%\Desktop\TreeD.txt"
