    Accessing files on my Windows 10 PC from my Android Device

    Hi, recently, my hard drive failed, taking my copy of Windows 10 with it.

    Predictably, I had not created a recovery disk but managed, through another PC, to re-create a restore disk which I then used to re-install Windows 10 on my PC, (after fitting another hard drive).

    Previous to the hard drive failure, I was able to use various Android apps e.g., File Manager, VLC, to log into my PC through my wi-fi network and access the files there.

    While I had to go through a log-in process through my Android device, (a Samsung Galaxy S5), I knew the PC name and the password.

    Now, although I know the PC name and password, (as I set them up), no matter what combination I try through either of my Android apps, they always come back asking me for a username and password.

    I've had a look at various threads, including some on this forum, and have tried various suggestions but none of them have worked.

    So, my problem is: either I think I know the PC name - and I don't, so how would I find that ?

    Or, I have the PC name correct but am entering the wrong password.

    Maybe I'm confusing the PC name/password combination I use for my log-in on the Windows log-in screen with another PC name\password combination I should use but that I know nothing about ?

    My Android device can 'see' the PC but can't log into it.

    My PC is very old so returning it to the store I bought it from isn't an option, unfortunately.

    Any suggestions welcome.

    Thanks in advance.

    :)

    Windows 10 Tweaks

    Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

    Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK

    AMD and BlueStacks Collaboration Brings Full Android OS Experience to Windows PC

    AMD (NYSE: AMD) today announced a new milestone in their collaboration with BlueStacks, a joint solution that brings the complete Google Android OS experience to Microsoft Windows-based tablets, 2-in-1s, notebooks and desktops. Optimizations for the fourth generation AMD APU in BlueStacks provide a complete, Android user interface and extensive support for Android apps for entertainment and productivity.

    "Windows and Android are both mature operating systems, each satisfying the needs of millions of users," said Steve Belt, corporate vice president, Product Management, at AMD. "Users whose devices and preferences span the two ecosystems no longer have to face device-specific restrictions on the benefits of one ecosystem or the other because AMD and BlueStacks have created a seamless user experience between the operating systems. Now users have access to all the apps -- games, communications and content consumption -- they love on their Android mobile devices right at their fingertips, while getting important productivity tasks or high-end PC gaming accomplished on their Windows PC."

    The new version of BlueStacks running on a Windows PC powered by fourth generation AMD APUs offers:
    • A familiar Android user interface, including settings, configuration and customization controls;
    • The ability to run Android apps within a window or at full-screen resolution leveraging direct access to AMD graphics processing power;
    • Support for hundreds of thousands of Android apps direct from various Android app stores, as well as synchronization between the same apps being run on the user's stand-alone Android devices; and
    • Seamless interoperability through direct file sharing that enables Android apps to access files stored within the Windows file system.
    "We're working with AMD to build the next great PC and AMD's industry-leading hardware allows for a more flexible experience with Android apps on the PC for end-users," said Rosen Sharma, CEO, BlueStacks. "AMD shares our vision of Mobile Plus in providing users with easy access to their favorite Android games, mobile apps and productivity tools from all their devices and moving towards a more open/shared ecosystem."

    Unlike traditional "dual-OS" systems, which require the user to disengage from one OS before using another, the AMD and BlueStacks solution runs Android virtually within Windows. AMD APUs are designed to deliver far greater processing power than the smart phones for which Android apps are generally developed, and should provide more than enough performance to support the typical Android app's requirements, providing a very satisfying user experience.

    The latest version of BlueStacks allows consumers to sync Android apps from a mobile device to a PC with FoneLink, a cloud-based service that enables an AMD Windows-based PCs to become an extension of Android mobile devices and vice versa. BlueStacks also adds support for AMD virtualization hardware so that multiple operating systems and their applications can run simultaneously on the same computer.

    Accessing files on my Windows 10 PC from my Android Device

    Samba access from Android device stopped working

    WOW, what a heated discussion this has become. IMHO, some the comments are "Very" unnecessary and are "Very" Narrow Minded and not exemplify of a so called "PRO" (especially when he/she is "WRONG").

    That said, I have searched the web for the last week for a solution to this Android Phone sharing issue with ES File manager and, my preferred Android file manager Zenui Android File Manager. Despite other user claims that they have no problem, I did. I have a mixed bag of PC configurations (various versions of Win10 and some Win7, some Win7 upgraded to Win10) on a private local network. Even though I have my file/folder/drives that I want shared set and have Password Protected sharing turned off, I cannot access any Win10 configured PC with my Android File manager other than PUBLIC folders.

    Good news is that I have stumbled onto what I feel is the solution for the present time. It adds one additional step to the normal steps we take to share our files on our networks. We need to add a security exception in file/drive/folder properties. I encourage everyone still struggling with this Windows 10 issue to take a look... It's Titled "Es File Explorer has no permissions". Be sure when making the settings suggest here to insure you check the inheritance block so all sub-folders are shared...
