Windows 10: acer aspire ES1-711-ZYL cannot load W10 (fresh install)

ok ... i have had enough day today ... busy as heck .
i'll dl the iso tomorrow morning and give it a go .

i tried installing W10 three times ... no go .
at least the machine reverts to 8.1 .

i get the same security/expired exe message and error code as with the 8.1 install .
there has to be something i am missing or the hdd is bad .
i have done some recon but came up with nothing decisive .

this morning i am going to try to install from a pendrive (brand new sandisk) ...
good thing i built a pot of coffee and have a full bottle of aspirin on hand .

 

What system date/time is set in UEFI/BIOS? Maybe the CMOS battery is dead and the clock is resetting itself.

 

the time/date and cmos cell are ok .
i have the day off but have been working on a couple of projects around the house .
i should be freed up in a couple of hours to make another attempt .

 

I would try to install Windows 10 from Kyhi's recovery tools. See my quote in the middle of the OP here:
Windows 10 Recovery Tools - Bootable Rescue Disk

Then you can check the date and time in the task bar when the computer boots before running Windows setup.

i just thought of something ... what if the other person has installed an older bios with the hopes of getting W7 to install ?
this would/could mess up the installations of W8.1 and W10 .

Pretty much in my quote in the middle of the op. Download Kyhi's recovery tools ISO file. Mount it. Windows 8 and 10 will mount ISO files in file explorer, you will need a program to mount ISO files in Windows 7. On your standard Windows 10 installation USB flash drive go to the \Sources folder. Rename the boot.wim file there to boot.bak. From the drive letter that appears when you mount Kyhi's ISO file, go to the \Sources folder there. Copy the boot.wim file to the \sources folder on the Windows 10 USB flash drive.

Now when you boot the computer from the modified flash drive it will boot into Kyhi's recovery tools. Check the date and time on the status bar. If needed set it to the correct date and time. Open file explorer, navigate to the USB flash drive, run setup.exe to start Windows 10 setup.

The exe file is expired message is normally caused by BIOS/UEFI reporting the year as 2099, not the current year.

You will need the Windows 10 installation USB flash drive to be 8GB or larger, though.

when i disable the "secure boot" in the bios , save and restart , it says there is no bootable device .
?
also ...
i noticed that the hdd password is "frozen" ?

could this be a part of the problem(s)
(as i said , there were fat fingers in this machine before i got it)

 

i checked the time/date in the bios ...
current time is correct (and counting)
date is : 01/18/2017

the flash drives are 16GB .

 

a friend is checking to see if he has a set of re-installation disks for this machine .
not much hope though ...
i have a notion that a set of disks will not fix the problems with this machine .

 

You could try back dating the bios to see if that helps with a Win10 install.

 

no dice on the recovery disks .
moving forward ...
i installed a 500gig hdd that i had removed the partitions on (had W7 on it) .
fired it up and booted from a W10 fdd installer ...
it found the old install and wanted to repair it !
grrrrr ... i put my boot disk of tools in the dc/dvd drive and when i selected the wipe tool , the machine shut down instantly !
after the third try with the same results , i shut everything down and walked away .

back to it ...
i am going to try a partial wipe (about 10%) using a 'nix machine ...
i have done this before with *stubborn* installs and this is certainly one of them .

 

hmmm ...

i did a complete wipe of a hdd (wrote all zeros) .
installed drive and tried both a pendrive and dvd of W10 ...
i had to use the legacy mode in order to get past the "no bootable devices" screen .
without a hint of any operating system , that "repair windows ... blurb/screen comes up .
again , it says that a "component has expired" .
i have no clue as to what is going on ... a couple of thoughts but nothing backed by hard evidence .
(say , the bios being knackered)

at this point i wonder if contacting acer would be a wise thing to do .
certainly , if there were a high percentage of "problems" with this and similar machines , there would be quite a stink raised .
elsewise , i am fresh out of ideas to try .

 

i have decided that it is an exercise in futility to proceed any further trying to install W10 on that laptop .
sadly , i cannot find out anything at acer ... at this stage of the game i would not in good faith tell anyone to "upgrade" a similar laptop to W10 .

i have loaded mint18.1 on a hdd and it works ok with the exception of a shut-down bug ...
which is certainly more than i can say for W10 on this model of laptop .
the learning curve of a 'nix system is too steep for the young lady that owns it (plus needing MSO to run) .
i will be talking with her and suggest that she purchase a new machine ... one with W7 on it .

i am not giving up on W10 entirely ...
according to a couple of my compatriots , W10 will load/run on a CF-19 and works ok .
time to yank the ssd on my '19 and drop in another one and try it out .
