Lets solve you lack of space first *Smile

Treesize free is small program and will give you much better information about where is your disk space gone. Just click on link and install it. It's clean according to Virustotal.

There is tutorial (you got link earlier) For posting pictures, but in short, you have 2 options: save screenshot to your disk and use "insert picture" icon, or 2. put screenshot directly in quick replay window.

In picture below, there are two arrows. 1st is showing picture button and second is showing "editing button" which you click for direct posting screenshot from computer memory (position cursor in text window and press Control+V).

It was refurbished from a company that buys in office pcs that are no longer wanted. It came in the original boxand looked unmarked .The supplier said he had installed windows 10 - that is all I know. Now I am having trouble with my usb memory sticks - some work when I put them in and some do not and do not show in 'my pc' as 'd' like they used to.
    Thanks

Go in to your System Settings at https://www.tenforums.com/profile.php?do=extra That way we do not make the mistake again, since that is the first place we go to see what kind of system a person has. Get the ISO of Hiren's Boot disc and use it to get into the unit. You can also get a USB to SATA adapter and plug the drive into another machine and then use a Linux Mint Live DVD or USB to get into the drive to run S.M.A.R.T., along with you can get a list of what is taking up space.

If you pull the drive and access on another machine, you will have to change the security settings for that drive to be able to access.

Newegg has the Toshiba Canvio and Seagate 1TB for under $60. I always keep an extra drive on hand, for times like this. Best insurance to have, especially with SSD's coming down in price also.

Maybe failing port or it is messing up the MBR on the sticks. I would contact who you got it from and if they are willing to swap to a replacement if this unit is not that old, you could get lucky. If they offer credit towards something else, still a plus.

Some of the laptops like the Toshiba Satellite C800 series, you can replace the boards for the USB, since they are not a part of the actual motherboard. This is the service manual for your unit. It shows how to pull the CMOS battery and do a bios reset to see if that could fix things. ACER ASPIRE V3-731 SERVICE MANUAL Pdf Download. Teardown walkthrough ACER ASPIRE V3-731 SERVICE MANUAL Pdf Download. The motherboard is over a hundred dollars if you think that the USB ports are bad, since they are buit into the motherboard. https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-list...&condition=all

ESET is a good diagnostic tool to use to figure out the USB issue. Free Diagnostic tool SysInspector ESET

Spunk has given you great advice.

It's extremely unusual to have 92gb space. From that I could tell your partitions have not been allocated properly. And that's an easy fix.

Go with spunks advice and attach a picture so we can see what's going on in your disk management.

Acer Aspire V showing very little free GB - please help me!

Thanks Marko 1401 - I found the screen to take a picture but tried everything and I don't know how to capture the screen and send it to this site! I did Windows and X and disk management and got the screen up - but tried everything from there and don't know how to proceed( I am quite elderly)

Looking at the bottom half of the page left to right it says:

    Disc 0 Basic 111.67 GB online - 100mb healthy EFI S - Acer (C) 95.73gb healthy (recovery partition)

    Regards

Easiest way to take a screenshot in Windows is to press (together) Windows key + Shift + S. Cursor will appear and you can select an area to capture.

i like Windows tool (included in Windows) called Snipping tool. Click on Start (left bottom corner) and start typing: Snipping... at snip Windows will show results and you can click on it... In sniping tool just select new, and same cross as before appear to select area. You have to press copy before pasting into Replay window

This is what you should put up on the site so we can help you get to the bottom of this.

Snipping the image as suggested by the user above is the most simplest approach to it.

    When we get the screenshot
i do hope that this is WRONG

Looking at the bottom half of the page left to right it says:
    Disc 0 Basic 111.67 GB online - 100mb healthy EFI S - Acer (C) 95.73gb healthy (recovery partition)

The recovery partition should not be >> C <<

    Hello again

Re. my Acer Aspire mentioned here - I am still no further on! Can I explain please?
I have tried to all clear all rubbish using piriform and disc clear but I still have only 8gb free of 102gb!

Now as suggested I downloaded Treesize but do not understand what to do with it.

It shows Acer C as 102gb (I only have this and no other partition). Under this heading it shows:
    50gb - 249 files
    28gb - Windows.

I am assuming that the 50gb - 249 files are my problem and that I need to get rid of some of them - but how do I do this and will this mess up my laptop (excuse me I am not very tech savvy)?

I removed all my photos and emails and only managed to increase the free space by 4 gb.

So, in simple terms, what are these 249 files and do I need all of them - I just do not understand.

    Thanks again everyone

    Hi again Moggie

It means that you have 50GB of files in the root of drive C:

Start Treesize as administrator (it should ask you to do this anyway) and click on little arrow in front of files (picture below). It will show us which are these files and how could you proceed.

    Hi AndreTen
Have done that and it shows like you have indicated above. The 249 files are all listed all the same with ooa...oob.... against them and they all show same ie 200mb!

I have tried to do a screen print many times to send you but it does not work. I am elderly and have not done this before!

I opened the properties on some of the files and they all just say the same date for each file which is 27 July '17! Is this where all my free space has gone?

  15. I agree with this.

My guess is that you have a single hard drive of at least 200 GB capacity and that Acer has split it into 2 partitions of about 96 GB and 111 GB. I know they split hard drives up like that.

Disc 0 is a 111 GB partition and may be largely empty. We don't know as we can't see a screen shot.

The other partition is C and is 96 GB and is apparently nearly full.

I'm not sure how the C partition came to be marked as "recovery", but the point is that you need to be utilizing that other 111 GB partition shown as Disc 0.

You may have all kinds of unused space on that Disc 0 partition.

I knew a guy who had an Acer machine years ago and it had a single hard drive split into 2 nearly equal partitions for some stupid reason, just like Moggie.

Moggie: if you have unused space on Disc 0, it can be transferred to the other partition C---but that may be beyond your skill level.

Or you should be able to start saving stuff directly to Disc 0.

But it's hard to direct you without pictures of Disk Management.

It's unusual to have a bunch of large files of the same size in the root of the C partition. They may be related to Windows System Restore points or Windows Updates.

Do those 249 files from July 27 all have very long file names like xk5i60ksfjy99s5pep429qqyjol40sk00---just nonsense characters like that?
