Windows 10: ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery - Laptop charge drops suddenly when enabled

I use an HP laptop, a little over 1 year old.

Since the last windows 10 update I have been facing a battery related problem.


There is no problem when I have it plugged. But when on battery, although the functioning is normal as the charge goes from 100% to 50% (takes around 2.5 hours), but after 50% it jumps directly to 15% showing me a low battery warning.


This very surely is not a battery (hardware) related problem. I know this because if I just disable the ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery in the device manager, then it works fine, giving me the normal 4.5 hours of usage on battery.

But obviously when it is disabled I can't see how much battery is left and that is very frustrating. If I enable it in between to check how much charge is left and if that charge is less than 50%, then the laptop charge suddenly goes to 1-2%

My driver for ACPI-Compliant... is up to date.


Any other workaround solution for this?

Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery is a driver needed by Windows to communicate with your hardware. To troubleshoot the issue, follow the steps below:

• Remove the charger from your computer, then restart your device.
• After your computer restarts, plugged in your charger. Check if the driver needed automatically reinstalled and addressed the issue.

What can I do as far as controlling battery charging via a "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery"

I noticed that sometimes when my laptop is plugged in it says "Plugged in not charging" - searching around I see all sorts of ways to disable this by removing the "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" driver from the device manager - however I would rather use this to my advantage instead - is there a way for me to see why the battery is not charging, and/or configure the reasons, or prevent the battery from charging (via software) when plugged in but at a sufficient level?
