    Acquire Windows 10 product key from purchase


    I'm needing my windows 10 product key so that I can reinstall windows. I've lost my card that has the product key on it and all I have is the receipt/invoice from Newegg.


    This product key was not attached to a Microsoft account and my login account was a local account.


    How would I go about getting the product key?

    • How did you upgrade to windows 10?
    • Have you done clean install?
    • Are you getting any error message?
    • From where have you purchased the Windows 10?
    If you have purchased from online Microsoft store or any store I suggest you to contact them for the product key.

    Keys are not required for the upgrade process. Windows 10 has a built-in generic key which it uses to install - it acquires the underlying Win7/Win8 activation during the upgrade process and assigns your device ID as a valid Windows 10 activated device. Subsequent installs will thus activate using your device ID. You will not require a key - should you be prompted, select "skip". Activation is automatic thereafter.
