Windows 10: Activate Windows appearing and disappearing after Windows update 1903 Continues into 1909

Hello. I am running Windows 10 Home update 1909 on an HP Envy 15. Up until Windows update 1903, my Windows had been running fine with no major problems. I have not installed or attempted to install any alternate versions of Windows, using only the copy of Windows 10 Home that came with the laptop. Yet after update 1903, a big Activate Windows sign appeared on my screen. Not only that, but it bizarrely disappears at some times only to reappear again later.


To solve this problem, I tried to retrieve my product key with wmic path SoftwareLicensingService get OA3xOriginalProductKey but it returned this error:

Later, on the advice of reddit, I tried to use slmgr commands, but they returned error code: 0xC0000022. On non-core windows, run slui.exe for error message paraphrased.


Help! I'm desperate for any solution. This is seriously souring my Windows experience.

Windows 10 1903 1909 repeated failure to update

Well would't you know it. I did everything, every step, all the suggestions, months of failed downloads and was going to wipe everything tomorrow and start again, but remembered I hadn't tried your suggestion of updating to 1809 before 1903/09, and blow
me down, but it's updated to 1809 with ease!

I have yet to dare to try and get it to update to 1909 but it's the 1st progress in months, so thanks.

After I installed the Windows 10 Feature Update from 1903 to 1909 my Windows Update History shows

Looking in the About page it lists Version 1909 OS Build 18363.720

In the past when I've installed a Feature Update it only shows the new update. In other words in this case it would only show 1909. Since it shows 1903 also is my computer really upgraded to 1909? Also the (2) after the 1909 is something I don't understand.

I would appreciate any help on this.

No you do not need to update to 1809 - 1903 if you are currently on version 1803, then version 1909 will appear in the list of updates and will automatically be installed on your PC since 1803 has run out of support

You do not need to do anything, 1909 is currently spreading around the world, just give it time to appear in the list of pending updates . . .
