Windows 10: Activating Win 10 on new hard disk

Hi,


So I have a laptop purchased 5 yrs ago that came with Win 8. I upgraded it to Win 10. The digital license is linked to my Microsoft account. My HDD is failing now, so I'll be buying a new SSD and would like to install the Windows on it. How can I proceed to install Windows on new SSD:


a. Can I install a fresh copy of Win 10 and activate it with my linked Microsoft account?


b. or, do I have to install the Win 8 first, activate it and then upgrade it to Win 10?

Win 10 Activation after clean install on new hard disk

Hi,

I bought a laptop with Win 8 installed on it and upgraded to Win 10 and it worked well. Yesterday, the hard drive on the laptop crashed and I lost all the data (including the recovery information or Win 8 installation files) and I installed a new hard drive
and performed the clean install of Win 10 Pro.

Now I can't activate the Win 10 as I am not upgrading from Win 8 and don't have the product key for that version.

How do I activate the win 10 on new HDD (the other hardware MB, Processor, RAM stays the same)

Please be informed that you cannot install the activated Windows 10 on to the new hard disk.

If you are replacing the hard disk then you may get Windows 10 activation errors.

If you are purchasing a new hard disk then, you may have to install genuine Windows 7 (SP1)/8.1 to upgrade to Windows 10 to get Windows 10 activated.

I suggest you to run check disk on the hard drive to see if there are any corruptions.

Follow the below steps:

• Windows key + X, click Command Prompt (Admin).
• Command Prompt, type the following command, and then press
  ENTER:

chkdsk /f

Disclaimer: While performing check disk on the hard drive, if any bad sectors are found then check disk will try to repair that sector. Any data available on a bad sector might be lost.

Once Check Disk completes, boot the computer and then check.

Reinstalling Win 10 on new Hard Disk Drive

I am using (for some years) a Toshiba Laptop that came with pre-installed Win 8.

I upgraded this to Win 10, during the free upgrade period.

Because my Laptop was becoming very slow, I have just fixed a new SSD Hard Disk Drive to this Toshiba Laptop.

How do I now transfer / install (or download) the Windows 10 operating system from my old Hard Disk Drive to the new SSD (Disk)

I must mention here that I have the serial number of Win 10 that I was using.
