Windows 10: Activation Code Error?

Probably more information than you need, but wanted to be thorough. A friend of mine built a computer for a coworker who quit their job and disappeared right after the computer was finished. My friend was never paid and had the computer sitting in a closet forgotten for the last year and a half. He found found the computer while moving and gave it to me.


Windows 10 was installed, and I had the password for it, but when I open Windows I was getting a flashing screen and couldn't do anything at all. I resinstalled Windows 10 using a USB version from my old computer. I was able to get Windows 10 reinstalled and get online. I purchased a new copy of Windows 10 directly from this Microsoft website and again, reinstalled it.


I now cannot get Windows 10 to accept the new Activation Key. When I manually put it in, I get error code 0xc004f050, which basically tells me to buy a new copy. I have now reinstalled the version of Windows 10 I purchased 3 times. The third time today from scratch after doing a complete PC wipe reset and I am still have the same issue. At no point prior, during or after installation has it ever asked me to input the Activation Key. I have been trying to get customer support via the chat app for several hours a day for three days straight. Can anyone help me with this?

Possibly there can be the problem with Microsoft activation Server, so your Windows 10 is not activated. In this scenario, you need to wait and verify if it is the issue from Microsoft’s side. But if you are getting error code 0x803f7001, you can also try these steps:

1. Open Settings app. Then go to Update and security > Activation screen > Change product.
2. Type your Windows edition product key and click Next.
3. You’ll get We couldn’t activate Windows error message.
4. Retry steps 1-3 then type your 25-characters unique product key.
5. Wait for the process to complete, Windows 10 is activated.
