Windows 10: Activation error 0xC004F213 after purchasing Windows 10 Pro Upgrade from the Windows Store

I have a 2018 Razer Blade 15 that came with Windows 10 Home. Today I purchased Windows 10 Pro for $99 on the Windows Store to upgrade the license to Windows 10 Pro. After installing and rebooting I'm now being given an activation error code 0xC004F213 indicating I don't have a valid license on my machine. I've run the troubleshooter and received no help there. My order invoice doesn't contain a product key (which it wouldn't given it's an in-place upgrade) so at this point I'm stuck with a non-genuine copy of Windows _that I paid for!_

If you upgraded to Windows 10 for free and ended up in a non-activated state, try following these steps:

• Go to Start
  
  , then select Settings > Update & security > Activation.
• Select Go to Store, and check to see if a valid license is available for your device. If a license isn't available, you'll need to buy Windows from the Store.

Which is good news actually, because Windows 8.1 is loads cheaper than previous versions (retail licensing at Windows 7 OEM prices). And it sort of puts a huge hole in the Windows subscription theory.
