Windows 10: Activation error

Hi, I have an activation problem that I'm hoping someone can help with.


I purchased a used/refurbished laptop at a small shop last year and it came with Windows 10 Pro. A couple weeks ago I installed a Windows update and a few days later started getting the message that my Windows license was about to expire.


I no longer live in the city where I purchased the laptop so yesterday I took it to a chain retailer with a repair department. They said that because the laptop has a corporate Windows 10 Pro account there was nothing they could do and I would need to purchase my own Windows 10 copy. I bought the Windows 10 Home version from them but I've not been able to activate it. I've tried changing the product name and version in the registry, as per a video solution, but it didn't work. It's not recognizing my new product key.


Does anyone know what steps I need to take to get this to work?

Windows 10 will not activate Error code 0x803F7001


Possibly there can be the problem with Microsoft activation Server, so your Windows 10 is not activated. In this scenario, you need to wait and verify if it is the issue from Microsoft’s side. But if you are getting error code 0x803f7001, you can also try these steps:

1. Open Settings app. Then go to Update and security > Activation screen > Change product.
2. Type your Windows edition product key and click Next.
3. You’ll get We couldn’t activate Windows error message.
4. Retry steps 1-3 then type your 25-characters unique product key.
5. Wait for the process to complete, Windows 10 is activated.
