Windows 10: Activation Key Issues

I think I lost my activation key forever.


I needed to reformat my computer anyways, so I decided to upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10. I couldn't use the auto-upgrade tool because I had no way of clearing up 8gb on my c: drive due to my failure to wipe the harddrive before the last time I installed windows. So I downloaded the ISO from the Microsoft site and put it on a USB. Then, I wiped everything and installed Windows 10.

I took a screenshot of my product key, thinking that was the same thing... but it isn't. And the code from my windows 7 physical box isn't working. I vaguely recall the last time I installed Windows 7 I had to call a phone number to get a new code because I had used the old one too many times or something? But I have no record of what that number was.

Is there any way for me to activate windows without access to the number that phone call gave me? I still have both the activation key from my Windows 7 box and a screenshot of my product key from that installation.


What do I do to fix this?

XP Activation issues

if the key was once activated (as in your case) then you will have to call microsoft and they have you do a series of steps to obtain a product number that they then can assign a key for...if the system hasnt changed since activation then it shouldnt be a problem, xcept that the person you will talk to from microsoft will be really hard to understand...when you talk to them you'll know what i mean..

Follow either of these steps to fix the issue with the Active window hiding behind.

Method 1:
I suggest you to disable window by hovering over it with the mouse and check if it helps. To do so I suggest you to try the below given steps and check if it helps:

1. Press Windows key + X key and click on Control Panel.
2. Select or click Ease of Access.
3. Click or tap onEase of Access Centre.
4. Click on Make the Mouse Easier to Use was uncheck Activate Window by hovering over it with the mouse.
5. Check if issue is resolved.

Method 2:
I would suggest you to completely uninstall the touchpad driver and reinstall it. Kindly follow the below given steps.

1. Press “Windows key + X” and click on “Device Manager”.
2. In the list of devices, you should see the touchpad drivers.
3. Right click on the device and then select "Uninstall".
4. In the uninstall dialog, make sure you select the option to delete the driver package from the system. This causes the driver package installed earlier to be deleted.
5. In the Action menu of Device manager, select “Scan for Hardware changes” option. This will cause the device driver to be reinstalled. Once the driver is installed, close all windows and restart the computer.
