    "Active hours" limitation

I work from home and need my computer operating from about 8-AM to as late as 2-AM the next morning.
This is a 18 hour span. How can I set my "active hours" to accommodate this? MS only lets me set "active hours" to a maximum span of 12 hours. Since 6 hours of "non-active" time is plenty of time for MS to install updates I see no reason for this 12 limit.

    :)

  5. Set your active hours from 2pm to 2am fro example. Windows usually checks for updates as soon as you boot, then it downloads and installs them ASAP, but sets restart after active hours, so in your case it should be around 2:30 am.

But I don't boot daily- the computer is on 24/7- so wouldn't any updates downloaded before 2-pm be auto-installed?

If you are using pro, latest insider versions allow you to increase time to 18hrs. Also latest has more control over updates allowing deferment.

I have the home version. But I recently read somewhere that if you set your wifi as "metered service" MS-UDs won't download until you permit them. If this is the case, it will solve my problem since I can then control when they install and wont have anymore surprise UDs trashing my open files. I hope this works.

Windows Update Minitool Download Windows Update MiniTool - MajorGeeks

Turn the option to 'notify only or download only' and do the updates with the tool when you want them to happen instead of when the system wants them to happen.

Thanks for the MajorGeeks link Wullail. I'm going to see if the "metered service" solution works since it is so simple.
If it doesn't I will try the MajorGeeks MiniTool.
