    Activity Reporting error non-existent device

    Hi,

I am seeking assistance with Microsoft Family (which has been problematic ever since windows 10).

Currently we have a child account which is reporting an error under Activity Reporting for a non-existent device. The non-existent device (old laptop) had previously reported errors with Microsoft Family which we were unable to resolve after exhaustive troubleshooting (including re-installation of windows multiple times). The non-existent device was replaced at great cost with a new device and windows 10 installation which now works successfully.

However the Microsoft Activity Reporting web page and weekly email reports indicate a error for the non-existent device.

Clicking 'Tell me how to fix this' advises to adjust feedback & diagnostic settings on the device which no longer exists.

Clearly this appears to be an issue related to the account in question.

    We have:

    • Replaced device.
    • Removed the non-existent device from Family > Devices and Family > Devices > Manage device limits for all family accounts.
    • Removed the Child account and left disassociated for over 72 hours. Upon inviting child account, the issue is immediately apparent.
    • Searched all account settings for mention of the previous device name.

Therefore this appears to be an issue related to the account in question.

Contacting Microsoft support via chat was of no help as they were unable to manage the account and advised to use this forum to escalate the issue.

IMPORTANT - As noted above the new device/windows 10 installation is working correctly. Therefore if you provide any advice please clearly indicate how this relates to the non-existent device.

    Kind Regards,

    John

  2. How to remove non-existent device permanently?

    Hi,

The drivers for your Touchpad is still installed in your PC that's why the device keeps reappearing. You may need to uninstall Touchpad in Device Manager. But since it doesn't appear in Device Manager, we suggest checking the hidden devices. Please follow
the troubleshooting steps shared by Vikrant Yadav on this
    link
    .

Let us know how it goes.

    Regards.

  3. Family activity report

    Hi Javier,

There are ways on how to manage activity reporting for your child. To configure your account settings, here are the steps:

    • Go to the account.microsoft.com/family site at Microsoft on any PC
    • Then sign-in
    • Open Settings
    • Tap on the Accounts icon
    • Click on Family and other users on the left side
    • Chose Manage family settings online
    • Check recent activity link for the child's account

Turn On and Manage Activity Reporting for Child

    • Click on Recent activity on the left side, and turn on Activity reporting.
    • Check or uncheck to Email weekly reports to me for what you want.
    • Under Web browsing, Apps and games etc., you can view your child's recent activity for each one, tap on Change settings
    • Then set allowed times to manage them, and to block any apps and games.

To Turn Off Activity Reporting for your Child, just tap on Recent activity on the left side, and turn off Activity reporting on the right side.

Get back to us if the steps won't work.

    Child Activity Report

    Hello Tareq,

Let's determine the cause of the issue. To get started, I'd like to get the following information:

    • Is this your first time to encounter this issue? If so, did you make any changes to your account or to your computer prior to this?
    • Which email address did you use when you've set up the Family Safety?

To make sure, I suggest that your follow these steps and see if it helps:

    • Go to account.microsoft.com/family
and sign in with your Microsoft account.
    • Find your child's name and select Activity.
    • If Activity reporting is turned Off, use the switch to turn it
      On.

Note: If you don't want to get weekly activity reports in your email, but still want to see your child's online activity, switch Email me weekly reports from On to Off.

We're looking forward to your response.
