Windows 10: Add drive error windows 10 storage space

Have long standing storage space which works fine but had error message saying I need to add two drives as it was running out of space. Bought a pair of WD 4tb drives and installed them. They were recognised in drive manager and initialised and new simple volumes created on each. In settings pulled up Manage storage space, add drives and selected the two new drives clicked on add and got error message:-

"Can't prepare drives​

Close all applications that are accessing the drive and then try again​

The parameter is 0x00000057"​

I had just restarted the machine and had not opened any applications. How do I resolve this?​

I am using the slow ring insider build: windows 10 build 19025.vb_release.19112-1414.​

How to remove a bad drive in Windows 10 storage spaces pool

Could someone list the steps involved in replacing a bad drive from a Windows 10 storage spaces pool? I cannot find any info on the Microsoft support site that is specific to Windows 10. Also, could you list the steps to remove a 'good' drive and replace
it with another drive if the process is different?

• Locate and click Hardware and Devices to run the troubleshooter then follow the next steps.
