Windows 10: Adding Google Account error 0x8007042b and event log DCOM 10016

Hi community,


After upgrading to version 1909 or rather, I believe this started after the upgrade, the Google accounts that were added to the Mail and Calendar apps failed, needing to be 'Fixed'. Long story short, after a lot of troubleshooting, I have uninstalled and reinstalled this App and I am now trying to add the Google Accounts. However, I am still getting error 0x8007042b BEFORE I even get prompted for username and password. I poked about and the same issue occurs for Yahoo, but none of the other options.


I noticed that in the event log, corresponding with the attempt to add the account I get the below:

The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID
{C2F03A33-21F5-47FA-B4BB-156362A2F239}
and APPID
{316CDED5-E4AE-4B15-9113-7055D84DCC97}
to the user STEVEN-ACER\steven SID S-1-5-21-902161998-2313607299-3683139500-1001 from address LocalHost Using LRPC running in the application container microsoft.windowscommunicationsapps_16005.12430.20136.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe SID S-1-15-2-2551677095-2355568638-4209445997-2436930744-3692183382-387691378-1866284433. This security permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool.


I duly added the required permissions, and then some, to no avail currently 'Everyone' has all 4 permissions enabled for Immersive Shell DCOM. Attempting to add a Google or Yahoo account still results in the same error and event log.


How can I troubleshoot further?

DCOM event ID 10016 logged in Windows

The 10016 events are triggered when a Microsoft component tries to access DCOM components without having permissions to access them.



These events can be safely ignored, they do not have any adverse effect on the functionality of your computer.
