Adding PIN requires "Add a password" ?

I try to set a pin for sign in , it tells me I need to add a password. I have already signed in with my Microsoft username and password. Where am I supposed to ADD this password? I am trying to make it so my computer locks when shut off and a PIN is required to unlock. Right now there is NO lock of any kind.

    :)

  2. Forgotten PIN and expired password

    Hi Dyari,

    Thanks for your answer.

I tried steps of both links:

    • #1: reset PIN code
      • I see no link "reset your PIN"on login page --> I can't reset it
    • #2: change or reset windows password
      • My Windows account is not displayed at all on login page.
      • I am using a local account
If you have any other suggestion, I would be more than happy to try.

    Regards,

    Guillaume

  4. Adding PIN requires "Add a password" ?

Windows 10 Settings, Adding a pin not working.

    Hi,

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community.

Instead of entering a password, you can sign in quickly with a four-digit PIN. I suggest you to follow the steps below to create a PIN to make sure that you're following the right way :

    • Go to Start , and select Settings > Accounts >
      Sign-in options.
    • Under PIN, select Add.
    • If you don't have a password on your account, you'll need to create a password before you can create a PIN.
    • Confirm your current password, and then you can create a PIN.
    • Now you can sign in using your four-digit PIN.
Hope this information was helpful and do let us know if you need further assistance. We will be glad to assist.
